BYNG — Ezekiel Griffin blasted a three-run homer to help the Byng Pirates cruise past Hugo 11-1 Thursday night at Stokes Field.
Coach Jake Wellington’s club improved to 5-0 on the year and has now outscored its last four opponents by a combined 46-2. The Buffaloes fell to 5-3.
Byng is set to make the trip to McLoud today for a noon District 4A-1 matchup.
The Pirates head to the Southeast Shootout in Broken Bow Monday, where they’ll battle Wister at 2 p.m. at Idabel High School. Byng meets Wagoner at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Valliant and the Pirates wrap up play at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday against Durant at Hugo High School.

Griffin’s big blast highlighted a five-run outburst in the bottom of the second that helped the Pirates build a quick 7-0 lead.
The Pirates ended the contest with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Preston Welch clubbed a two-RBI double in that volley and Hagen Graham — who had walked earlier in the inning — scored the final run on a base hit by Kix Stephens.
Griffin’s home run was his only hit of the contest, but he walked, was hit by a pitch and scored three runs.
Byng managed just six total hits, led by Preston Welch, who finished 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Lane Alexander also had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run for the hosts.
Stephens was the winning pitcher for the Pirates. He struck out five, walked one and allowed one run in three innings. Brody Airington tossed the final frame for Byng.
Hugo’s Zane Allen blasted a solo home run, one of two Buffalo hits in the game. Payton McClain had the other HHS base hit.
Logan Allen was the starting pitcher for Hugo. He struck out three and walked six in three innings of work.
Stonewall pitcher mows down Wilson
VARNUM — Stonewall sophomore pitcher Kaleb Prince mowed down the Wilson-Henryetta lineup in the Longhorns’ 10-2 victory Thursday night at the Varnum Festival.
Coach Dillon Monday’s club, ranked No. 7 in Class A-1, improved to 7-2 on the year, while the Tigers dropped to 0-3.
The Longhorns are back in action Thursday, facing Riverside at noon on Thursday a the Union City Festival. Stonewall then meets Hinton at 3:30 p.m. later that day.

That was already more than enough run support for Prince, who struck out 11, walked two allowed just one earned run in the four-inning run rule. He gave up just one hit — a solo home run by Keshow Shelburr with one out in the top of the fourth inning.
Teague Pogue finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in Stonewall’s seven-hit offense. Jaxson Christian went 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored and Laden Bailey finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Talon Dabson was the losing pitcher for Wilson-Henryetta.
Asher storms past Smithville
BATTIEST — The Asher Indians broke open a tight game with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth and socked host Smithville 10-3 Thursday at the First Bank Classic.
The Indians played Valliant in tournament action Friday and are scheduled to meet Boswell at 2:15 p.m. today in a tournament game at Battiest.
Asher 10, Smithville 3
The game was knotted at 3-3 after three innings before Asher scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth to set up the big fifth inning.
Asher ended up with nine total hits in the contest, including two apiece from Kelby Fowler, Ryan Gregg and Carson Timms. Fowler went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, Gregg finished 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored and Timms went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Raygan Kuhlman went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored and Hudson Skender finished 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored for Asher.
Erick Cole was the winning pitcher for the Indians. He struck out seven, pitched around seven walks and allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings. Parker Wood recorded the final out via a strikeout.
The Braves finished with just two hits, including a double by Jarron Ford who knocked in a run and scored a run. Jax Gallups went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Smithville.
Ford was the losing hurler for the home team. He struck out two, walked three and allowed two earned runs in four innings.
Stratford splits pair at I-35 Classic
WYNNEWOOD — The Stratford Bulldogs used a four-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning to rally past Elmore City-Pernell 9-7 Thursday at the I-35 Classic in Wynnewood.
The Bulldogs (2-2) then made too many mistakes in a 9-1 winner’s bracket loss to Purcell.
The tournament continued Friday and wraps up today at both Wynnewood and Wayne.
Stratford 9, Elmore City 7
Bodie Manuel’s two-RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning put Stratford ahead 8-7. Oliver Smithwick later stole home for the Bulldog’s final run of the contest.
Smithwick closed out the game from the mound, striking out three of the final four batters he faced. He tossed 4.2 innings and recorded eight strikeouts with no walks and didn’t allow an earned run.
At the plate, Smithwick finished 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Grady Carter paced a six-hit SHS offense, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Camon McNew went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored and Brody Hallmark also had a hit, walked and scored a run for Stratford.
