Pistons Gordon and Villanueva

DETROIT (AP) - A person with the knowledge of the negotiations
says the Detroit Pistons have agreed in principle to contracts with
free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday night on
the condition of anonymity because NBA rules prohibit teams from
announcing free agent signings until next week.
Gordon, the third pick in the 2004 draft by the Chicago Bulls,
agreed to a 5-year deal for at least $55 million.
Villanueva, the seventh overall pick by Toronto in 2006 who has
played all three of his NBA season with the Milwaukee Bucks, also
agreed to a five-year deal. His contract is worth at least $35
million.

As a Bulls' fan, I'm actually pretty happy about this. Gordon can light it up, but his deficiencies in other areas (ball handling, defense, falling down for no reason, over-dribbling) often cancel out his scoring ability. He's also Jake Plummeresque in the way that he'll bring you back from a deficit he had a large part of creating. Detroit overpaid.

I agree 100%. Plus if Deng stays healthy, Salomon's can play SG and it lets them keep Kirk to play backup at the 1 and 2. I think it actually makes them better.

I'm giving Deng one more year. If he can continue to expand his range (he shot 40% on limited 3 pt attempts), I think he still has the potential to be a solid compliment to Rose, health permitting. I understand your frustrations with him, though.

I think they overpaid for Gordon. Charlie V is an alright player, but not one I'd be overly excited about. But 7M a year is a fine price for him I suppose.

Im hoping 'Sheed lands in Cleveland. My hope was both he and Artest would end up in Cleveland, because pairing them with Shaq would certainly make for interesting stories.

I assume this is some sort of allusion to Chauncey Billups, but that whole "Mr Big Shot" thing was pretty over rated to begin with IMHO.

Well theres a good chance theyll trade Hamilton Id imagine. And even if they don't, they'll eventually hire a coach and its his job to decide who shoots those shots. When D'Antoni was here he always spread the ball around in the last seconds, depending on match ups and who was open, any good coach would do the same and his players should understand.

EDIT: VVV Are you trying to say the Suns sucked under D'Antoni? Or that the Pistons are going to suck?

I was thinking that too. These aren't good moves for Detroit. They're spending money just to spend it, like the Suns did with Quentin Richardson. They have no paint presence at all, on either end of the court. (Edit: I forgot about Maxiell, but he seems like a limited-minutes player.)

Detroits problem is they are a team of role players. Everyone is pretty good, but no one is great. Adding Gordon and Villanueva is just more of the same. They should be good enough for about the 5th seed or so, and 2nd round at best. Doesn't really seem worth all that money to me.
