Former Pitt basketball guard Jaland Lowe has committed to Kentucky.
Lowe was the fifth Panther to enter the portal this offseason, with Guillermo Diaz Graham, Jorge Diaz Graham, Marlon Barnes Jr. and Amsal Delalic all previously announcing their decisions to transfer.
Rated a four-star prospect in the class of 2023 out of Missouri City, Texas, Lowe led Pitt in points per game (16.8) and minutes per game (35.8) as a sophomore this past season. He dished out 5.5 assists per contest and was named to the ACC third team.
Lowe was also a catalyst for the Panthers as a freshman during the 2023-24 season.
After Ishmael Leggett missed time with an injury, Lowe was inserted in the starting lineup and stayed there even when Leggett returned. The results were fruitful for everyone – the Panthers began winning with Lowe starting and Leggett’s presence gave the team a deeper bench, as he ended up winning ACC sixth man of the year.
But in a year that was supposed to be a breakout season for both Lowe and Pitt, the Panthers fell well short of expectations in 2024-25. After starting the season 12-2, the Panthers finished with a 17-15 record and in 13th place in the conference after getting bounced by Notre Dame in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
Lowe joins a Kentucky team that was coached by Mark Pope in 2024-25. The Wildcats advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to fellow Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee. Kentucky had beaten Tennessee twice during the regular season.
