sweet, hopefully we'll get grimm to come to us, as well as some of the other assistants that we wanted.

I was rooting for NO on Sunday so if they went with Rivera it would give us a better chance at some more of the Steelers coaches .. now that they announced this today it gives Whiz a chance to make a move on Whipple or Arians ...

I wonder how Grimm feels after his second interview lasting 6 hours and they still bring in someone outside the organization ... ??? he may feel slighted and want a fresh start somewhere .. like here ..

Pittsburgh is taking a big gamble. Tomlin is only 34 and he's been a coordinator for only one season.

I'd take Whiz over Tomlin any day. PITT screwed the pooch on this one, IMO.

Both are completely unproven as head coaches. I'd rather have Whisenhunt as well, but "screwing the pooch" is a little strong for ownership that made two coaching hires in the the last 40 years and got 5 trophies out of them.

The Rooneys aren't infallible. There were better candidates on Pittsburgh's staff than Tomlin. JMO.

Same age and experience level that Cowher had.

Just for once, I hope we can talk crap AFTER the results are in.

Same age and experience level that Cowher had.

Cowher was Kansas City's defensive coordinator for three seasons and worked under Marty Schottenheimer for seven years as special teams coordinator, DB coach and DC before he became Pittsburgh's head coach.

Cowher was a much more proven commodity that Tomlin is.

Grimm can still get a HC job I bet. I doubt we could afford him as an assistant. He has to really be p-----off and I cannot see him staying in Pittsburg other than he is under contract?

Now ESPN is reporting that Mike Tomlin insists that he has not signed in Pittsburgh and that he hasn't talked at all to the Rooneys today. Unreal.

Steelers downplay SI report on new coach

Saturday, January 20, 2007
Tom Birdsong, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pittsburgh Steelers this afternoon would not confirm a Sports Illustrated report that the team has named a new head coach.

SI.com, the magazine's web site, reported today that Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin had been offered the job.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett, however, said that although he had read the SI.com report, the team would not confirm that Mr. Tomlin would replace Bill Cowher.

"We have heard all the rumors, and we have nothing to confirm at this point,'' Lockett said.

Asked whether the team had a news conference scheduled either today or tomorrow to announce that their search for a coach was over, Mr. Lockett said, "No, nothing planned, and we would certainly tell you and all the media if we did.''

As he left Steelers headquarters on the South Side this afternoon, team Chairman Dan Rooney would say only, "No comment,'' when asked about the report.

Lockett, asked whether the search for a coach continued, would say only that the team had done important second interviews with two of the candidates, Mr. Tomlin and Steelers assistant head coach and line coach Russ Grimm.

Mr. Grimm, a native of Scottdale, Westmoreland County, could not be reached to see whether he had been told anything about the search.

His brother, Donn, reached in Georgia, said he had heard nothing from Russ Grimm today.

"I think I would have heard, if he knew anything,'' Donn Grimm said.

Mr. Tomlin, 34, just finished his first year as defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings. It is believed that he and Mr. Grimm are the frontrunners to replace Bill Cowher. Cowher resigned last month after the Steelers ended the 2006 season with an 8-8 record, following a Super Bowl championship the year before.

Cowher said he planned to spend more time with his family after coaching the Steelers for 15 years. His wife and youngest daughter moved to Raleigh, N.C., last year.

Grimm may be ours, folks. Tony Soprano, welcome to Arizona.

i guess the interview process hold a lot more or equal water to a body of work....grimm has been to alter and in the photo finish several times but always is the bridesmaid...i thought he was a shoe-in to get the job here (go bears!!!) but came up short to jauron....he is a very bright guy and an excellent assistant we'll know pretty soon. could it have been his sweater assortment?? (sort of makes belicheck look like don juan)
