Surprised that this has not been posted here yet.

A young girl (10) with a rare form of cancer really wanted to see "UP".

She was diagnosed 3 years ago and over the last few weeks it was apparent she wouldn't make it. It got to the point where she was physically unable to make it to a theater.

Some friends of the family managed to contact Pixar, and they flew out an employee to her home so she could see the movie she always wanted to see.

She passed away 7 hours later.

To their credit, Pixar will not comment on this and will not release the name of the employee. Amazing, very heartbreaking story.

Link here.

That's cool. Hopefully it eased her pain/worry/fright/sadness for those 90 minutes or so.

Am I the only one that was a bit uncomfortable with the girl seeing this movie, considering the content? I dunno. Maybe I'm just too sensitive to this sort of thing. It was an awesome gesture on Pixar's part, and even better they didn't send out a press release on it. I have mucho respect for the management there.

I don't watch movies geared towards kids, but isn't it rated PG? I would think that a PG movie wouldn't be too bad for a 10 year old.

Also, if I had a kid that was dying of cancer and their dying wish was to watch a porno, you can bet that wish is going to come true.

In addition to what was already said in the story, apparently the girl's eyes had already failed so the mother sat there and narrated to the girl what was on screen as the movie was playing.

Very sad.

It isn't really geared to kids, oddly enough. It is a very adult movie in terms of the themes.

I imagine she was ill and medicated enough, Gadd, that much of it would have been missed, but actually, I can't think of a movie that would be a better way of saying goodby to the world, offhand.

Great, great move by Pixar/Disney.

This brings up an interesting question, about what single last film you'd want to see if you were never going to be able to watch a movie again?

Easy, Family Home Movies. As many as I could get in.
