Pike is living the life. He retired two seasons ago when he left the Bulls, however, accidently got on the Suns payroll somehow.

All he has to do is dress nice 82 evenings out of the year and he's got millions extra in his pocket.

Life isn't fair....

Yep... must be nice getting paid to have the best seat in the house at all the Suns games.

If the Suns are serious about winning a title they'll do whatever it takes to sign him - even if it means the full MLE for one year. Sarver would still end up saving $7mil with the KT deal.

I believe the full MLE right now is $5.5 million. That means that the Suns would have traded Kurt Thomas and given away two first-round draft picks in order to save $5 million. I do want PJ Brown. Unlike many people here I believe he would be a big help against everybody, not just the San Antonio Spurs. He is probably an slight improvement over KT defensively, but overall it's a lateral move. The entire front office should be slapped if they essentially sold two future first-round picks... unprotected picks... for $5 million in savings.

I don't think the Phoenix Suns are offering anything close to the mid-level exception. I'd be shocked if they are offering anything more than half of it.

while PJ might not make a difference against us, he would make a difference against SA, especially considering he's a better offensive player than Diop and Dampier has had injury issues throughout his entire career, including coming down the stretch last year. I really don't see why some people are writing off the Mavs. He accomplishes two things for them - gives them someone with better offensive skills to bang with Duncan off the bench and by getting him, it keeps us rail thin. Kills two birds with one stone if the Mavs get him.

I think the Dallas Mavericks are the biggest competition for PJ Brown. The only thing they will be able to offer better then the Phoenix Suns is playing time. They also don't have Steve Nash. That's about it.

I think the Suns are holding tight to see who slips through the free agent cracks. There are a lot of guys who I am surprised are not signed yet. The Suns probably want to pick up one of those guys for a one year contract. Hopefully someone of worth will slip through. I'm not holding my breath though.

PJ Brown just doesn't excite me at all.

Likewise. I'd love to see Suns SOMEHOW make a move for another wing small forward shooter/defender in the likes of Barnes, Posey, Udoka. Then u can go out and sign a cheapo big like Skinner or Singleton.

Suns need depth. They need it badly.

The Suns aren't signing one player let alone two. That cuts into the 40 million dollar profit margin you know.

That would really make them look bad as Skinner and the other available bigs like Croshere & Ely could be had for the vet minimum of like 1.3 million each if its even that much.

Since when does Sarver and Kerr worry about looking bad? They have Marks.

Well, actually, they HAVE to sign at least one more player (two if they don't sign Strawberry). Each team is required to fill at least 13 roster spots.

1- Nash
2- Bell
3- Hill
4- Marion
5- Amaré
6- Barbosa
7- Diaw
8- Tucker
9- Marks
10- Banks
11- Piatkowski
12- Strawberry (?)
13- ?

Defense is a bigger need than depth. If we play the Spurs again Amare won't be on the floor for too long because of foul trouble. That means our whole interior O is gone and then there's no one to challenge shots once Parker and Gino blow by our "defenders" again. Getting PJ or anyone as good as him is the only way to beat them. Getting another swing won't help. It's been proven that we can't force our game on them.

PJ is considered one of the best in the NBA at dealing with Duncan. I find that terribly exciting.

as do i. thought he isnt kobe or amare in terms of exiting the audience, he is still a solid player. besides, the suns are by far the most exciting team in the league as it is :)

It is being reported on a couple of Spurs forums that PJ Brown is meeting with the Spurs on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Spurs are right atthe luxury tax line with 13 players currently under contract. Hoopshype lists them at $65 million before adding Oberto who has a 3 year $10.5 million deal. http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/san_antonio.htm

Considering how much they paid to get below the threshhold, I'd say it is extremely unlikely the Spurs would pay above the vet minimum for PJ.

the spurs, the mavs, wow. it seems as though everyone in the league knows that the suns are one legit post defender/rebounder away from the trophy. teams even seem to try to block players from coming (i.e spurs, mavs). the craziest thing is that the only people that doesnt act like they know this IS the suns front office. hopefully they will make us feel like we were worrying for nothing and that they had a plan all along.

i know this is beating a dead horse, but i'm still upset by Kerr.

he's sitting here 2 weeks ago telling us that KT doesn't fit into our system so he shouldn't be here, then turns around and trys to get a cheaper KT.

at least stop with the spin bro, makes anything you say not credible...

Kerr is very clear. He wants PJ and does not expect him to be in the rotation. At the same time, I don't think he slammed KT, just that he was not worth $16 million to them. If the Suns can replace KT with PJ at small salary, then the team is financially better off and not that much worse off on the floor.

The real issue is the nature of the negotiations. Clearly PJ wants a lot more money than anybody has offered. He can go to any team he wants as long as he is willing to play for the vet minimum. My guess is that Suns are offering a little bit more because they really do need him. But they are not offering as much more as he wants.

From a public standpoing, Kerr has gone to great lengths to play down how much the Suns really need PJ. That's part of the negotiating tactic -much as PJ keeps telling everybody he wants to retire but doesn't.

This is routine negotiating tactics once it becomes clear there is not someone in the wings ready to make a big offer. IMHO, the process will not go forward as long as there is a chance that Dallas will give a $3 to $4 million offer. Once Dallas decides what it is doing, PJ's leverage will be reduced substantially.

We don't know if Kerr is any good at this game. But expecting him to tell us how he plans to play his hand seems a bit unrealistic.

Didn't we just trade one of those away?

"The Phoenix Suns have made 74.5 million dollars in profit in two years "

Seriously? What's the source for that?

Forbes, although there has been a great deal of argument over what 74 mill actually means.
