You wouldn't have taken Fernandez/Bayless for Nash? I'd flip out for a deal like that.

Neither of those players appeals to me much.

It would make it possible to ship JRich off for peanuts to get rid of his contract.

The Suns would have already done that if they had a taker.

Stoudemire for Green/Collison/PHX#1

I doubt that OKC ever made such an offer, or that the Suns turned it down. I agree that it would be hard to pass that deal up.

So your expectations are to find one single trade that allows you to rebuild your team in one step? There are no Hershel Walker deals anymore.

No, but combining good deals with bad ones doesn't get you anywhere either. Every trade has to improve the team. Nash for a couple of 10th men and a pick in the 20s doesn't do that.

Teams are forced to do this often...nobody rebuilds arounds good talent.

Everyone rebuilds around good talent. If you don't have good talent, you aren't rebuilding: You just suck.

Having young, mediocre talent breeds lottery picks...

All the more reason for the Suns not to put themselves in such a situation this season. Why make the Thunder that much better?

I agree with you...but how does extending a 36 yr old Nash shore up finances?
I suppose that would be considered a choice to keep the fanbase interested right.

Yes, right. I would have preferred that Nash receive only a one-year extension (through 2011), but he probably wouldn't agree to that.

The Amare /GS deal wasn't garbage either....it wasn't enough to pull the trigger IMO.

The Suns got unlucky there, because they agreed to the framework of a deal and then Golden State tried to change the terms. The Suns couldn't afford to take the weaker package, because then every GM in the league would walk over Kerr worse than they already do. I agree that even the watered-down GS deal was probably doable in principle, but circumstances made it impossible.

Eventually this fanbase is going to wake up the idea that the SUNS need to go in a different direction.....but then again, maybe they won't.

Some of the fanbase knows that, but also recognizes that it's not the right time yet. You need to time your paradigm shifts carefully.

i don't like this roster or this garbage system but i'm willing to throw out names that i believe can help them do whatever it is they want to accomplish with it

There is a fundamental incompatibility between "We need to rebuild" and "Let's spend $2 million on a 43-year-old Theo Ratliff."

I agree! How teams do this, is by compensating with the hiring of a really good coach that gets the most out of these player's talent and by inspiring working harder than their opponents. I am not so sure Alvin Gentry is the task master we need to do this!

The Spurs are a good team and have made some good moves, but make no mistake--signing Theo Ratliff as their 12th man is nothing.

Theo Ratliff is still playing? That guy was old years ago.
