I’d be happy if they can get in 6 games in 2020, but that seems remote.

I'm a little surprised the players went along with this.

Maybe I don't know enough of the details?

Edit: found this in another thread.

It benefited the rank & file, struggling fringe players, practice squad players, and retired vets in a very positive way...the only players who can argue a negative impact, at the end of the day, are the top paid stars...and that's only because the salary for 17th game is capped. Basically, if you make more than $4 million / year, the 17th game is bad for your wallet. For the rest, is a good thing.

For those that argue the 17th game will increase injuries... That remains to be seen... Because they also are taking away one preseason game, and limiting off-season work even more than they have already.

Long snapper and kicker's vote are twice as much as the star QB. HAHA

That's what happens with a popular vote over a representative government.

If only your total snap count made your vote matter more. Sort of like how California always pisses and moans that there are two Dakota's. And thus 4 votes in the senate versus their two votes.

Star power shouldn’t matter.

Im just happy it passed. A lot of times these things get contentious and you have a lockout or work stoppage...so in the long run its really good that we know this is set for 10 years.

Usually, I am against expanding playoffs, but I think I actually like the new format. A 3rd wildcard team and only the #1 seed gets the bye.

The 17 game season is good for everyone involved IMO. The preseason is nonesense, and players are risking injury in a game that doesnt matter. I could see players really only playing in 1 of the remaining preseason games at this point, and Im fine with it.

Now, I know this wasn't part of the deal specifically, but now lets just hope the league wises up and moves the Superbowl to Saturday.

I was reading Mike Freeman's take I think it was, and this is a huge win for owners.

Players portion of the revenue is basically capped for the next ten years! And NFL players get pretty much the lowest percent of any league and their overall pay is less than the NBA and MLB.

This means that if the owners find new revenue streams within the next decade, the players get none of it.

I'm a pro labor guy and I dont watch the NFL for Michael, Jerry, and the Rooneys. The players got screwed overall.

Wonder where the 17th game is going to come from? One more game against an interconference opponent makes sense to me.

Blame Gene Upshaw (R.I.P.) for being the owners’ lapdog and setting the precedent for owner-friendly CBAs. The only way the NFLPA could regain power is by striking for a season, but there aren’t enough players who’d make that sacrifice.

In addition, I wonder how much of a role COVID-19 played into this and the fear of a work stoppage from it. Some of the middle-ground voters likely wanted some assurances just in case things go completely upside down

Love this some much. I've heard former players talk about cannabis use in the NFL, and he guessed 60-75% of the NFL uses cannabis.

Cant wait until the Boomers are no longer in charge and the prohibition of cannabis can finally be lifted. I've lived the past decade in two states where it is legal and there aren't any real problems from it.

The players come and go and I root for the team ultimately.

The owners have taken on significant risk at some point in their ownership and are now reveling in the profits. It's a business...like it or not.
The players choose to play football and are rewarded exponentially in comparison to society. Police officers, military personnel, etc put their lives on the line every day for much much less.

I can't think of another industry (outside of sports) where employees get ~50% of the revenue.

Are you in your bunker already?

Really, we should all be at least considering it. I’ll tell you teams are preparing for no games played in 2020 or at least none with attendees. If they chose to play closed games they would need tests of each player before the game. The Roche 8800 testing system could give them results in 4 hours. The docs are saying that should be safe considering the player’s condition. We can likely improve that by fall. Older coaches might find themselves coaching from a pressbox. Probably all coaches would have to follow suit to be fair. Screening of Media personnel and other stadium needed people as well. The rosters would be expanded with no ineligibles. Players would have to agree to salaries as a % of revenue, mostly Media revenue is all they will have.

Consider with the required 3 level trials for a vaccine to be approved, I know of no reputable source saying a vaccine will be available in 2020. So, continued social distancing will be the mantra. This is a matter of science. Expect your life to change for at least a year, maybe longer. So pick your bunker, but even if you’re young I’d recommend choosing one.

Do those other professions make their employers/partners billions of dollars? The players earned that money by the fact millions and millions of people want to watch them play their sport.

No one forced those police officers, firemen, & military personnel(speaking from experience) to be police officers, firemen, & military personnel, either.

I’ve heard many of the players were concerned about the near-term financial future of the league. If they didn’t approve it and with the players facing lockouts and a cancelled season there might not be a check for a long time.
