Playoffs Broken!

I need a course in Adam Silver.

Changes need to be made more than about division winners. Like, the whole playoff system needs to be changed.

I think the NBA's trying too hard to keep both the west coach and east coast happy. They may be worried that if its just best 16 teams then barely any East coast teams will be in the playoffs leading to perhaps less revenue from the East coast during playoff time.

Last year it would have been 9 from the west and 7 from the east. The biggest change would be the seedings. The west would have had 6 of the top 8 seeds.

The reason it won't change to the top 16 teams league-wide is simply MONEY. Any change to the playoff formatting has to be approved by the team owners (2/3rds I believe)... so why would the east owners vote to have less of their teams in the playoffs when it would cost them money? Besides, the top East teams like having easier matchups in the first rounds of the playoffs... if they were mixed in with the west teams then their playoff route would be a lot harder.

It would be great if the league was able to move towards the best 16 teams making it into the playoffs, but even that can be greatly skewed depending on strength of schedule... east teams still play the majority of their games against other east teams.

I'm fine with them doing this, but why not extend it to across the conferences? Instead of top 8 regardless of division do top 16 across the league.

I am with you. I would rather see the top 16 across the league but I wonder if they are stopping at the conference level because they are worried about league wide support.

This is still better than doing nothing I guess.
