We have two minor league teams in their respective playoffs - South Bend Silver Hawks, who pretty much rolled over their low-A league all year, and Lancaster Jethawks, who just made it to the division finals by taking 2 of 3 from High Desert.

A.J. Shappi (tied for most wins in the minors with 16) pitched decently in the Jethawks' first game win, Matt Chico did not in the game 2 loss (5 ER in 2.2 IP), and in the game 3 win Garrett Mock sucked big time (7 ER in 1.1 innings) but Lancaster came back behind a great pitching job from Jon Castellanos (2 hits, 5.2 IP) to win game 3 in 11 innings. On to play against Lake Elsinore.

SilverHawks swept their first round - they have awesome offense - and start round 2 tonight.

Something about 'Hawks' in the name, maybe?

South Bend Silverhawks won the Midwest League Championship today!
Manager Mark Haley was also named Midwest League Manager of the Year, and word is young pitchers just LOVE Wellington Cepeda, the pitching coach. Tony Dello, formerly DBacks BP pitcher for 6 years, is the hitting coach - and their offense roared along all season.

Congratulations! DBacks still have a promising future, if we can just get there. Several of their position players are going to be in the new Instructional League that starts in Tucson next week - I don't know if they'll actually play any games, but if so, I want to take a look at some of these new youngsters.
