No real need to bump this. We are, for all intents and purposes guaranteed a playoff berth. The only question now is whether or not we get a bye. Football Outsiders has us at only 20% chance of getting a bye. Which is pretty obvious considering that two of the teams ahead of us also have the head-to-head tie break against us.

The third team, Tampa Bay, also has the advantage over us by virtue of their 7-2 conference record vs the Cards 5-3.

#3 seed seems like a lock to me. That's not too bad though, it means we are guarenteed not to play in cold weather until the NFC Championship game.

Sadly I forsee yet another game involving the stupid cowboys. No reason other than the football gods don't like me.

So the Cards have slipped down to the #4 seed due to the Vikings' conference record advantage. Looks like that game against Minnesota in a couple of weeks is going to be pretty important to determine head-to-head for the #3 seed, which is supposed to give us a slightly weaker first round opponent and avoid having to play at the Meadowlands in the divisional round (should we win).

I'd rather play the Falcons at home, then go to Tampa as opposed to playing Carolina, then going to New York. It also gives us (slim) hope that someone else will beat the Giants first.

I actually like our chances in Tampa if we can get out of the first round(!)

Atlanta at home and Tampa on the road is probably our best hope.

I'll be there this weekend, it will be my second chance to be in the stands when the Cardinals clinch a playoff spot (1998 was the last time).

Wasn't the 98 win against the Chargers where Cris Jackie hit the game winning field goal in a wild game?

Yes. The Chargers were able to tie the game with under one minute to play on a 4th and goal from the 25 yd line or so on a pass by future HOF Qb Craig Whelihan. Man, that was a same ole cards moment! The big kickoff return by Eric Metcalf saved our bacon, though.

I really don't worry who we will be matched up against. By that time anything less than a 3 game winning streak means elimination.

The way things seem to be playing out, somewhere along the line we will have to travel east and win a game. At that point, it's fish or cut bait.

Yep, I think the Cards will see the 'Pukes again in a playoff game; first or second round.
The Cowboys would have to make the playoffs for that to happen. So let's see, first they beat Pittsburgh on the road, then they beat the Giants at home. 14 games in, their record will be 8-6 which will put them at least a game behind both Atlanta and whoever loses on Monday night. They'll have to make up that game against Baltimore (not a pushover) and by winning on the road in Philadelphia. Meanwhile Atlanta will be finishing up with Minnesota and St. Louis while Tampa Bay is finishing with San Diego and Oakland.

Their only hope is that if they do win those final two, Carolina has a rough finish and Dallas would have the better conference record.

But I think Dallas will finish 9-7 and miss entirely.

Cowboys are currently 8-4 the two more wins would put them at 10-4.

As it currently stands Dallas is tied with Atlanta for the final playoff slot in the NFC. The Falcons have TB and STL at home and travel for NO and MIN. So who knows?

I am not stating emphatically that the Cardinals will face the Cowboys... I am just saying, that I think it will happen. I'd rather it doesn't happen; because I have such disdain for that team that I don't like to watch them play, ever.

I meant to address the stupidity of believing that the Cowboys will beat Pittsburgh and/or New York.

In two weeks, Cowboys fans will be doing what we have done in our better years: look at all the unlikely combinations of things that they just know will happen to allow their team to back into the playoffs.

On a somewhat sidenote... The TB CAR game is a very good watch. Both of these teams look like juggernauts.

Woof. The Panthers rushing attack is starting to separate itself.

My god it's full of stars!

Anyway, a matchup against the Bucs doesn't looks so awful right now.

A rematch to the Panthers leaves me a little worried.
