Can someone please explain to me how saves are figured. I know it occurs if the spread is 3 runs or less. What if a relief pitcher is pitching the 9th inning of a 7-3 game, he puts a guy on base gets no outs and is removed from the game. The next pitcher pitches and in the process the non-earned run scores making it a 7-4 lead. He continues to finish off the inning with a final score of 7-4. Does he qualify for the save? If not please explain!
