I thought this would be a fun poll. I've deliberately left off roles involving the darker side of drug abuse and tried to keep it to characters that at least captured the humorous side of the stoner spirit. What was more amazing as I started compiling the list was the number of A-List actors who played stoners.

Wow - I am never spending this much time on a poll ever again. Unfortunately, I just could stop once I got going.

Up in Smoke, easily.

Half-Baked deserves honorable mention.

I have to go with The Dude.

The Dude: Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I'm really surprised that no one has questioned the inclusion of the Tombstone characters in this poll.

I just realized that I forgot tp include Shaggy and Scooby Do.

Also, was Bill Murray's character in Caddyshack stoned or just wierd?

I went with Jay and Silent Bob but Spicoli is a close second. Not only was Spicoli a great stoner but none of the others had a topless Phoebe Cates in their movie.

Definitely up in smoke. I remember seeing that in the movie theater, my parents had recently divorced and our dad took myself and my 2 sisters to see the movie as our weekend out. I couldn't have been much more than 12, I remember thinking how embarassing it was watching that movie with my dad.

That movie is a classic.

This thread is great. Did any of these characters ever compete in anything, let alone win? :)

When I put Brad Pitt in this poll, I thought of it as a throwaway. It’s interesting to come back a week later and see that he got as many votes as he did. I knew that Spicoli and The Dude would be the front runners, but it’s cool to see that there are so many people who still appreciate Cheech and Chong.

So what does everyone think? Did Curly Bill and Johnny Ringo (Tombstone - Powers Boothe & Michael Biehn) belong in this poll? I don’t know, I love Tombstone and when I watch the film those guys seem like stoners to me – albeit, dangerous ones. I mean the “cowboys” did hang out in an opium den.

Spicoli and the Dude were awesome (I own both films) but they were one timers. Cheech and Chong made a friggin career out of being stoners. Theres none better. Course, Chong jumped the shark, but Cheech got out in time...

Depp and Del Toro shouldnt count, either, those two were just straight up users, not stoners. And if it was for the best users of all time, it'd have to be them, or maybe whats his chops in naked lunch, or maybe Dillon in Drugstore Cowboy. I digress. Se7en, new poll?
