What kind of grade to give the Cardinals cornerbacks? This is the pre-draft grade and should assume Antrel Rolle is no longer part of the contingent. You can consider depth, quality of the starters, run defense, pass defense, and anything else you want. Do you think the Cardinals have a legitimate #1 starting Cornerback?

I'd have to agree. Hood had a good year. Green could still develop. We have no clear #1.

C-

I think Hood is a good to great #2 CB. I think Green is a good to great Nickel CB, if after 3 years and more starts the Rolle had as a starting CB before the 2007 season even happened I have little faith that he can raise his game any further if he hasnt already done so in 3 years and plenty of play time. We dont have a #1 CB, we dont have a #4 CB. That is all bsed on us having a consistent at minimum above average pass rush.

After just typing that out I should have put a C instead of a C-.

I don't think you can have a B anything without a #1 CB. We have 3 #2's (if you include Rolle) and a bunch of scrubs.

I think you are wrong. Besides Hood is a#1 IMO. Give him a passs rush and he immediately gets even better than he was last year.

I don't think he is. How often did Hood line up against #1 receivers? IIRC, it wasn't very often. (I'm sure someone has stats on this) He is a really good #2 though, the best we have.

Hood is solid IMO, Green cant tackle and Ralph Brown/Travarous Bain is currently our nickelback. In hindsight, I should have given us a D instead of a C-. Cason and Flowers would be a big help in rds 2 and 3.

Saved me the effort of typing it out :thumbup:

Agreed.

Hood is much better than many give him credit for.

Green is a borderline starter at CB but so are many that are starting in the league right now.

Plus Green has shown improvement after each year, at least IMO.

We had a thread recently which included DB stats for last season, and if I recall correctly, Hood was top 3 or 5 in the league (A)... and Green was in the lower quarter. (C-), I would imagine. Considering the unknown quality of our present backups, with the exception of Brown - the overall grade would border on C. (IMO).

Remember guys. He didn't line up against #1 receivers most of the year. He was lined up against the other team's #2. That definitely factors into it.

He had a good year.

Well, unless you have some specific facts to share, this is speculation on your part. But, accepting for a moment that teams threw more to the other side... why is that?

Maybe, just maybe.. teams avoided him.

I voted a C just because of depth issues. I feel Hood is a legit #1 corner, and Green has some skills as well, but the others don't really deserve to be on an NFL team. If we get at least 1 more solid corner and actually develop a pass rush, our secondary will be in good shape.

I think this board vastly underrates our corners. Holt made the entire secondary look awful at times. Rolle at safety is going to absolutely rule. Booyah.

Not really. You use the high/low formula and throw out each, and your left with a low mark of C. Not bad.:p

C, average. I think Hood has the potential to be very good and, like others here, I think he had a pretty good year. That said, I still don't think we have a clear #1 though.

I guess I base mine on the secondary as a whole.

Wilson: A- (needs to pick his spots for bone crushing shots).
Rolle: A- based on my feeling of him at Safety.
Hood: B+ I think this guy is very good and has many PD's
Green: C He's got talent, but is very suseptible to the big play.

Our Backups: D+ Fransisco gets a B-, but rest are F's)

Overall Grade: B-

I think due to his hardworking mentality, special teams play and being an overall good guy, people give Francisco WWAAAAAYYY too much credit on this board.

Finish this:
Francisco = B-
Holt > Francisco
Holt = ?

For all the love he gets here, keep in mind that he was beat out for the starting job by Holt last year. No way IMO is a good backup a B-. No way... If he was a B-, we would have never pursued a starting safety (no that Holt is deserving of such duties) in FA last year.

Holt > Francisco

Are you kidding me? Aaron Francisco can actually make a tackle in the open field and is definitely a more physical presence than Holt. In addition, Francisco is a solid contributor on special teams. I'll grant that he's a liability in pass defense, but no more so than Holt who couldn't cover anyone.

Can you honestly say after last season that Terrence Holt belongs on an NFL roster? I still have visions of the guy making love to the football after his one fumble recovery, instead of getting up and trying to run, despite two Cardinals trying to drag him to his feet to do so.
