According to the draft value chart (which I know is useless so don’t @ me) the Cards 2nd rd pick this year is 560 points. Adding a 4th rd pick gets you to the value of a 1st rd pick if we’re just using that guide as a tool. It depends what other teams are willing to offer New Orleans but Bidwill shouldn’t just give in on a first rounder considering our 2024 1st will be high again. I just don’t see the Saints passing on that based on principle.
I have a feeling that the 3 teams who were granted permission already know and understand and agree to the compensation and the other 2 teams don't. (I read that all 5 teams requested permission, but only 3 granted.)

Man… Kyler’s injury just sucks. I think we’d have been a front runner for Payton or the best offensive coordinator if Kyler was healthy. Head Coaches and Head Coaching candidates have big egos and think they can fix anything.

With Kyler having flashed superstar skills, and a premium pick in the draft in our pocket, I would have felt really good about our chances. But that contract plus injury just begs so many questions of what kind of Murray is going to return and what impact that will have on the franchise moving forward.

There are three parties involved. We’ll see how bad Payton wants the Cards because they’re not trading him unless he approves it. If his priority is money/control then he goes to the highest bidder.

It might be a formality, or Payton’s to decline. Kliff was fired 9am on black monday. MB formally requested an interview before wild card weekend. Before we even have a GM. Never has this team worked so fast to hire a HC.
Truly strange.

The most Cardinal-like ending to this story is McVay leaving LA and Payton taking his place to torment the Cardinals and their head coach Vance Joseph twice a year.

Is it even a good job?

I know the media keep saying "He likes LA" but if McVay wants out doesn't that indicate it's the same situation he had in New Orleans?

Question marks at QB. Cap hell. Aaron Donald says he retires when McVay goes. Roster isn't in great shape. Draft capital ain't great. Fan base sucks.

Plus would Les Snead want him? Snead isn't giving up roster control.

I think the Rams would be more likely to go with Raheem Morris. I'm not sure the Rams would want Payton or Payton would want the Rams.

Agreed. Even when they are winning, that stadium will never be packed and rocking with Rams fans anywhere close to what he's used to in New Orleans...I know for a fact when the Cards are rolling that stadium gets deafening loud! Add that to we see Mike basically tlo the:, 'Come save my franchise,' point of ownership and AZ is definitely more attractive.

Whatever the compensation I think Payton would be in on the deal. The Saints get nothing if Payton stays on tv. I just don’t think it’s cool to give up draft picks in a coaches first year.
Maybe we trade a conditional 1st round. What I mean by that is we trade down and acquire a 1st round next year giving us two. Then we “ agree” to trade ours or the one we acquire.

The worst thing for this organization will be if Payton declines our job, chooses not to return to coaching this season, and then we hire Vance. That is the nightmare and clown franchise scenario. All we will hear is that we "tried"...and again failed.

I'm inclined to agree. Now, I don't think the concept of a healthy Rams team having a good year is that out of the realm of possibility, but the future there is super bleak. Add in giving away whatever compensation they'd need to to get Payton? Doesn't seem like a good spot for a return even if you want to stay in LA.

I’m not giving up next years 1st either, that will most likely be a top 10 pick as well.
If Payton is here, I don't think it'll be a top 10. We'll be middle of the pack & I would give that up for Payton. Or we trade Hop for a late 1st or second round pick & use that as part of the deal.

Yeah... Payton never had a season with fewer than seven wins as a HC. Yes, he had Drew Brees with some fairly execrable defenses, but in 2021 he won nine with Jameis Winston and Trevor Simian as his primary starters.

Dont like he implies its not from any insider knowledge about Payton and then sort of smirks.
Yeah, that's pretty deflating even though everything is speculation.

Maybe the Cardinals can't have anything nice.

I will forever blame my dad for moving to Flagstaff when I was a child. Otherwise I probably would have been a Cowboys fan. Cursed from the beginning.

I still don't get it with this dude. Rode on top 5 all time HOF Breezy coattails to a singular superbowl, the bountygate bs, still under contract with New Orleans for 2 full seasons... all of that and he's somehow going to turn down being pampered for $10 million a year? To coach the Arizona Cardinals? Best coaches in the League are pulling $12 million a year. What? Are we going to pay Payton double that since he wants to be the GM too? Can't forget the signing bonus... what's that put us at? Are we seriously still considering paying Sean PAYton??

B.B rode coattails of Tom Brady.

Walsh rode on Joe Montana

Tom Landry and Staubach

This list can go on.

The coaches are rarely the reason for success, of course.
