This is

a good signing imo.
Earlier in the year I thought he played sloppy. But, towards the end of last season, he picked it up, and not just "the catch". I'm glad for this signing.
I think a 4 receiver set will give defenses fits this season.

Camp fodder, who might make the roster. Contrary to a few folks who translate a single catch into a good player, don't read too much into this.

Poole

13 for 177 yds.
13.6 avg.
2 for 20+
That's not start, and not coming on until the end of the season, when McCown was starting. I'd say the jury is still out on him.
Camp fodder you say? We shall see.

Camp fodder, with a possibility to make the roster. I'm not going to be surprised if he makes the roster---I'll be surprised if he contributes more than he did last year, which was next to nil.

That's the league minimum for a player with his tenure, right? Please, tell me the Cards didn't pay a premium to keep this guy on the team...

Next to nil?

Tell that to the fans in Green Bay and Minn...

I don't agree, he has a legit chance to make the squad. I think it depends on how well Kasper shows and if Gilmore makes the squad.

unless

Gilmore really comes around I don't see it. I've always liked Kasper's hands, think he's tough. Poole was definitely starting to come around end of the season. It'll be fun to watch.

I just wonder how Gilmore's new contract will affect the ability of the Cards to cut him. After giving him that half mill bonus last year, will they be willing to cut him if a guy like Poole or Kasper outplays him?

Poole made some great catches last year and didnt drop the ball when Ray Lewis rung his bell, He is a good receiver

And I think there is a reasonable amount of chemistry between him and Qb McCown from playing together on the practice team.

Here is Gilmores base salaries:

2004 455,000.00
2005 540,000.00

Plus his .5 mill bonus wasnt a signing bonus it was a roster bonus and he was paid in full when we signed him to the extension in the middle of the year last year. So the so called signing bonus doesnt count towards this year or any other year becuase it has already been paid in full and counted against our cap in full last year. Sort of what the Vikings did with Winfields contract this year. Hope I explained that well enough.

So if we cut him we get the full $455,000 back. So money will not play an part in cutting or keeping him.

Thanks for the info. That is good to know, I was afraid that the whole $ thing was going to come into play. If Gilmore makes the team, it looks like he will have to earn it, which is just fine with me. I'll just never understand why they gave him that roster bonus. The guy did nothing and they gave him a half million dollars up front when there was a good chance he wouldn't even be wanted by the new regime, and I highly doubt there were a bunch of teams who were going to be throwing money at this guy when his contract expired. Oh well, I guess that's why I'm not a highly paid NFL GM

Riiiight. Let's base future roster moves on one terrific catch out of an otherwise lackluster (to be kind) career. I'm just saying I'm glad you aren't the GM, okay?

He's got a shot to make the roster, sure, but not really any shot to become a playmaker on this team, all ye fantasy folks. I mean, be realistic; he has tons of receiver talent ahead of him on the roster, plus Freddie Jones.

Look...if he does well, fine. We make out like bandits. If not, he's buried on the depth chart, or cut. Simple. Clean and simple.

If that's the case, Poole is a lock.

Seems to me that Poole made five catches in the Viking game including the winning catch and another one just about as good. IMO he has good hands. I don't know what kind of routes he runs.

IMO our WR squad looks like, assuming we keep six not in depth chart order

Q
Fitz
BJ
Poole or Kasper
Poole or Kasper or Gilmore
new guy we signed to return kicks (don't remember his name)

That leaves one of Poole or Kasper or Gilmore the man without a chair when the music stops.

I have to

think it's Gilmore. I expected him to be a lock last year, but, i'm not sold on him anymore.
