I really think L. Pope could be a good way to go in the 2nd rd. I really like our young TE's but mostly as receivers not as blockers. Pope could be the monster that saves our imobile QB so he can have a gigantic year at the helm of the NFL's top passing attack.This guy is HUGE and can catch! Bergen could be our Todd Christensen(Bergen will catch a lot of balls in 06)Now if a top lineman falls here I might lean that way but....drafting this guy would almost be like adding a lineman and TE with a second rd pick. I'm not sure who I like in the 1st yet but I know it's not B.Bunkley(injury history) like FF says ...he looks like a thicker A. Wadsworth and we all know how that worked out. This is all just IMHO

I'd drink to that.

However, unlike the legendary "Trade Out of the Suggs Hole" draft year, I think the talent drop off this year starts somewhere around #7 and is followed by a rather sizable 2nd echelon plateau.

If all of Dennis Greens' Top 7 players are gone by #10, I think we'd be well served to trade down for an additional 1st (or high 2nd) round pick because the talent level from #7 to #41 (or even farther) appears to be relatively "flat."

I don't think we really need a pass-catching TE. Our young TE's now are decent recievers and we have 2 of the best WRs in the game. A pass-blocking TE would help keep Warner standing an extra few seconds. I wouldn't mind Pope at all. I also think its easier to teach receiving skills than blocking skills. Receiving requires practice.. blocking requires more courage, intensity, concentration.

After Combine

After watching and hearing a bit about Pope at the combine I was a little dissapointed that he wasn't as good of a blocker as I first thought. At least he has the size and seems like the attitude to be a good blocker. He certainly passed the test with his receiving ability though. I would still grab him in the 2nd for sure.

Leonard Pope is a below-average blocker at this point in his career. I'd guess that Bergen and Edwards surpass him in that category right now. All size, no technique. A la Anthony Clement.

Vernon Davis was blocking guys 20 yards downfield during Combine drills, when he had nothing to gain after his 4.37 (which isn't real, but that's the reported time). When we get a young QB on the field, a target like Davis in the middle of the field will immediately make him better.

Caveat emptor on this mock. No way Gabe Watson goes #13, or Tamba Hali #9. The Cards really don't want Bunkley at #10, not when better players are available like Michael Huff. Passing on Huff for Bunkley would be a huge mistake.

He looks like a big bad dude at least what i saw of him at the combine. Plus being a Cardinal from Stanford means DG will probably like him. I suddenly feel like I need to go to church lol.
