The New Orleans Saints have had an intriguing offseason, with a few moves having been made, but not many that were previously connected to Kellen Moore or the staff as of yet. One of the players many fans and media personalities alike presumed may have been an option for the Saints was offensive lineman Mekhi Becton.

The Saints have a need at left guard, and it stood to reason that they may pursue Becton due to his connection last season with Kellen Moore, and how the offense was able to get the best out of him after a few tough seasons. Ultimately, that will not be happening, unfortunately.

Becton will instead be moving on to the AFC West, as Tim McManus of ESPN reports that the offensive lineman will join the Los Angeles Chargers on a two-year deal. Additionally, he notes that the intent is for Becton to remain at guard as he did in 2024, and not play tackle which he was initially drafted as.

This adds to an already strong offensive line unit of Rashawn Slater, Zion Johnson, Bradley Bozeman, and Joe Alt, with Becton slotting in at the remaining right guard spot.

When it comes to the Saints, they will have to now continue to look for a guard in the coming weeks via free agency, or potentially draft someone to place in the lineup as competition to the current room. Cesar Ruiz is secure at right guard, but they need an answer on the left side. Nick Saldiveri, Will Clapp, and Kyle Hergel figure to compete for that job the way things stand right now.
