I would make every effort to convince Durant to jump ship next summer. Meanwhile, I don't think I would be making major moves. I'd look around for a point guard, but that's about it.
Yep, and Booker will get a few mnts. there too, imo.

Ariza and Chandler and likely Bender come off the books next year, try to lure someone much better. We have the cap space to make a bigger move in the off season. All we have to dangle now is JJ or Warren really. I can't see kicking them for a Butler. They don't whine and JJ can still improve.

I don't like the BS he pulled in Chicago nor the way he's handling things in Minnesota. But things feel really desperate right now so maybe a desperate move is in order.

For me it has more to do with being pretty low on JJ. I haven’t seen anything to suggest he’ll ever be an outside threat and by this time next year he won’t have any value.

As for that specific trade we get upgrades at two positions. Jimmy and Booker would feed of eachothers drive which is a stark contrast from Wiggins. I have no idea what it would mean beyond this season. Not sure I trust giving him a max deal with his mileage though therefor it’s a lot to risk.

If JJ is traded for Butler, I think we'll regret it. I'm not sure of the odds but I could see Thibs developing JJ into the next Jimmy Butler. He didn't really break out until his 4th year and a lot of injuries to others put him in a position to get a lot of playing time. Butler was 25 at that point. JJ will turn 25 in his 5th year. Without an extension in place for Butler, preferably around the one he turned down that Minnesota offered this summer, I wouldn't make that trade. He turned down a 4 year $108 million dollar offer. That is when he said he didn't want to be there. it was under the max but the money wasn't the issue so much as his teammates.

I don't think we'll be able to keep Butler. He's made it clear he has little patience for young players and he's also made it clear he wants to play in New York or LA.

As a team that is even younger than the team he currently hates being on because it's young... and as a city that isn't LA or New York... trading for him seems really really stupid.

JJ is only entering his second year after being a one-and-done. He’s had one year of Bill Self followed by one with Jay Triano, whose player development reputation took a hit last year. I don’t want to include him in a win-now package if by “win now” we mean compete for the bottom half of the playoff seeding.

Oh. I totally agree with this, I just did not think it would meet the criteria of this thread.

Ok, this can work somehow. It's sending a hair too much in salary to Boston though. They can include another minimum contract to even it out. The financials are $17k off, which could be covered somehow, I'm nto going to try and fix it.It's close enough that the teams can figure it out.

Suns Receive - Terry Rozier, Gorgui Dieng, and Yabusele
Celtics Receive - Jimmy Butler
Wolves Receive - Jaylen Brown, Tyson Chandler (expiring), Marcus Morris, and Bender (before his option is due.) Picks to the Wolves

Ainge is one of the only GM's who won't make Butler agree to an extension. Even though the Celtics weren't on Butler's list, they would be favorites in the East and their starting 5 might cause problems for Golden State if they met in the finals. Kyrie, Butler, Hayward, Tatum, Horford as their starting 5.

Suns start - Rozier, Booker, Ariza, Anderson, Ayton. We lose our cap space but Rozier is restricted at years end. Dieng would fill Chandler's role as a backup C and Yabusele is to make salaries work.

Minnesota has Teague, Brown, Wiggins, Gibson, KAT. Chandler to mentor KAT, Marcus Morris as the first Forward off the bench. Bender's a project.

Is Rozier a legit starter in this league? Or was he a reserve that had a good run? His D is not good.

My take on Rozier is that he's a good defender. He got exploited some against larger players in the playoffs, but he's been part of some of the best defensive lineups in basketball.

As for whether he's a flash in the pan or a legit starter...hard to tell. He's definitely better than anything we've got now.

If the Celtics wanted Butler, I imagine they could get him without having to give up Brown and Rozier. I think Brown may have higher trade value than Butler at this point.

Read the other day that Rozier is asking for $20 million a year for his extension which virtually ensures he's a goner. That hurts his trade value some. Brown is a nice player but they are in true win now mode and Butler pushes them in that direction more. Also there is concern Butler and Kyrie team up in New York next year, Boston can stop that by putting them together now with Hayward and Horford. If Lebron was still in the East, I think that deal would have a better chance of happening but now they are the favorites already.

I wouldn't mind seeing Toronto make a play for Butler to even out the East some. Kawhi and Butler vs Kyrie, Hayward, and Horford would be a good ECF matchup. I doubt they have the Raptors have the pieces to make it work though.

This trade is absolutely atrocious for the Suns.

Way to screw yourself over, taking on Dieng's awful contract while giving up expirings and a PG who is demanding 20M$ per. Absolutely ridiculous.

In that deal we don't give up much and we do take Dieng's contract but doing so is how we would get involved and land a PG without giving up any big assets. We could still swing another deal with Jackson as the centerpiece later. Let Rozier hit restricted free agency. The only way he'll get $20 million a year is if he plays out of his mind and I'm fine with that. There are too many other PG options on the market next summer and it's unlikely Rozier will get more than $15 million a year. If he can do as he did in the playoffs last year then he would be a solid addition to our core. He's a good defender, can knock down outside shots, and can find his teammates. He reminds me of Bledsoe back when he was on the Clippers only we've seen Rozier show up and deliver in the postseason, against Bledsoe also.

Why haven't you suggested anything? You're awfully quick to bash others but rarely propose anything on your own.

Suns get Teague for hot garbage?

Sure, why not.

Something is wrong with the trade machine on that trade. You cannot send out Benders salary and take back Teague's salary. It just doesn't work in real life.

I don't understand it either but I ran it with the same results too. It's interesting that in addition to it qualifying, Hollinger's analysis doesn't predict an increase in wins for us with the Teague acquisition.

That Teague/Bender trade works on RealGM's trade checker also. I looked over the CBA FAQ to see if there was any sort of weird rule for multi team deals but didn't see anything. The odd thing about it is how every team is taking in about the same amount of salary even though they're all sending out various amounts.

Jones said wins/losses don’t matter and it’s more about developing the young players. I don’t expect a win-now trade until next summer.

Or, if we're competitive night in and night out but not putting teams away and not far below .500... I could see them doing it during the season.

I'll bet Booker loved to hear that.
