The New York Giants got their first up-close look at quarterback Shedeur Sanders at Colorado's pro day on Friday, and by many accounts, Sanders impressed.
So did his famous teammate, Heisman Trophy-winning two-way star Travis Hunter, who ran routes to show scouts that he's not just a shutdown cornerback. He can add value on offense, too -- lots of value.
The Giants were well represented at the event, which was covered live by the NFL Network. Senior personnel executive Chris Mara was on hand, as was general manager Joe Schoen, his assistant, Brandon Brown, and several other high-ranking members of the Giants' front office.
Head coach Brian Daboll made the trip and was joined by offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, secondary coach Marquand Manuel, wide receivers coach Mike Groh, quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, and assistant quarterbacks coach Chad Hall.
"Sanders was his normal accurate self at Friday's workout, especially on some deep balls," reported Yahoo! Sports' Frank Schwab, "though it's hard to take too much out of a passing exhibition in shorts and a T-shirt with no defense against him. But one throw, a 55-yarder with good accuracy to Jimmy Horn Jr., stood out."
The Giants did not plan on holding a private workout with Sanders during the trip. Perhaps they've seen enough. Keep in mind, they have had several face-to-face meetings with him this offseason.
Hunter ran routes and showed his shiftiness. Some teams see him primarily as a receiver, while others see him as a defender first who can play on offense. Either way, he's a Top 5 pick in this year's draft. He gave the teams at the top the draft (Tennessee, Cleveland, the Giants, New England) something to think about.
Last week, Schoen said the Giants could go in "any direction" with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Sanders and Hunter could both be on the board when the Giants are on the clock. Friday's event just made that decision a little bit harder for the Giants.
