The Diamondbacks are close to acquiring a power-hitting outfielder in a trade, the East Valley Tribune reports.
Manny Ramirez? Sammy Sosa? Probably not. Preston Wilson is one possibility. Craig Wilson, Kevin Mench and Jay Gibbons could be others. Since they're loading up with veterans, the Diamondbacks have plenty of trade bait in youngsters like Alex Cintron, Chad Tracy, Scott Hairston, Josh Kroeger, Luis Terrero and Jamie D'Antona. Shea Hillenbrand is also very much available

Hope it isnt Wilson.... and I wouldnt mind trading any one of those prospects.

Ugh...shawn green sucks...why can't we get an everyday player that hasn't had some type of major surgery?

I think the DBacks want a good either #1 or #2 Starting pitcher for RJ. I would really be disappointed if Shawn Green was the only major piece that we got out of the deal. I think the more likely scenario is that we sign Burnitz, and then trade RJ for another starting pitcher. But in reality who knows, my guess is as good as anyones.

I'm not too keen on helping out another team in our division... Dumping Green's salary is helping them out quite well

Great all we need is another in a long line of RF with no pop. Green is useless. Didn't the Dodger fans boo him costantly last year.

TheY mentioned Moorad but RJ for Green toatally reeks of Joe Jr.

Trade the most dominant left hander in the game for a has been RF.

AND THEIR SALARIES ARE THE SAME!

How long is Green under contract, and for how much? Anyone know how to find a link for that info? Green does love BOB, I've hated that guy every time I watched him there, but it is another guy with an injury, and Brad Penny is OK, but not a number 1 or 2 man.

Green only has one year left on his deal

Sorry, but Johan Santana is the most dominant left hander in the game with Randy a close second. A healthy Billy Wagner is third.

Ugh, c'mon Mao, I can see if you would say that after two years, but let's be honest, most people had no idea who the guy was before last year. Let's see him do it more than one year before we deem him more dominant than randy.

As of right now, the reigning Cy Young winner and owner of the filthiest pitch in MLB and who had the best second half of perhaps any pitcher in MLB history gets my vote as the most dominant LH pitcher in the game. Watch Johan pitch. Barring any injury, he will dominate hitters for the next decade.

I have watched him pitch, and he is amazing. However there have been many pitchers who have dominated for a short period of time, and then fell off for one reason or the other, from injuries to mechanical issues. Randy had arguably his best season this last year, but was murdered by horrendous fielding and no offense behind him. His slider is my vote for filthiest, because batters for the last 10 years have known that it's one of two things; fastball or slider, and they still have not a chance in hell against it. Santana's changeup is damn good though. Randy should have won the Cy Young, and had a no hitter this year. I'll take Randy for most dominant. Oh, and randy had a minimally better ERA and more strikeouts by about 30.

Don't get me wrong, RJ was unbelievable in 2004. I just thought Johan was slightly better which is why I think as of right now, he's the more dominant. The extra 30 Ks RJ acquired mean little considering he pitched in the NL which means more Ks with less pitches. The ERA I'll say is even considering the leagues and the defenses behind each pitcher. What seperates the two for me is the sheer dominance of Johan after the All Star break.

104.1 IP
13-0
1.21 ERA
55 Hits
14 ER
129 K
.154 BAA

Sorry, but RJ never even dreamt of putting up numbers like that. RJ dominated in 2004, but hitters had no chance against Johan. It doesn't really matter because it's like arguing if you'd rather pitch to 1927 Babe Ruth or 2002 Barry Bonds.

He had a great year, but to call him the best LHP in the game is a little to gracious after one season. People were ready to crown Barry Zito the best ever and he basically lost control Chuck Knoblouch style

The leftys that I like are: Santana, Zito (he has just a sick curve when it's on), Oliver Perez, Mark Mulder and Washburn

Most Over rated: Buehrle (no fastball) and Dontrell Willis (His delivery hides to ball a spilit second longer than most pitchers, but baters are figuring it out)

I was never ready to crown Zito with anything because he has an 90 mph fastball and inconsistent control, but his curve is unbelievable. Mulder doesn't have a great out pitch and Washburn is severely overrated and I'm an Angels fan. Regardless, they're all terrific pitchers except for Washburn. Oliver Perez has the makings to be the next RJ if he gets his walks down.

What sets RJ and Santana apart (to be joined by Kazmir, Perez, and hopefully Ankiel if they continue to improve) is the fact that they have multiple great pitches. Both have fastballs that they can throw by the best batters in the game and their respective out pitches which are equally unhittable if on.

I'm not trying to be a ****** saying Santana is better than RJ because I know RJ has the hardware to back up his claim. But solely basing this on 2004 and knowing what pitchers historically have done when they're 42 compared to 25, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Johan is the more dominant right now.

The only way it helps them is it gives them money this year to get a player like JD Drew. With the way the Dodgers offseason has gone thus far (not to mention that horrific trade they made with the Marlins last year), they are a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ways away from doing anything .

Green only has one year left on his deal if he stinks he's gone, if he's good then he may get an extension (nothing close to what he makes now). He's more of a throw in than anything else. I don't think they are relying on him to do anything but if he does do well its a bonus
