I'm fine with Powers in the slot, just not on the outside. Seems like Bethel has the same body type and speed +/- as PP21, and with some refinement, could be a great second option to Patrick.

Hell, he may have to take PP21's spot next Sunday.

Maybe, but it was two years ago that Arians was saying this about Bethel at the opening of training camp, and he's failed to move up the depth chart since then.

I think that the Cards were so focused on closing out the middle of the field (mission accomplished) that Powers man had a two-way go. That doesn't happen every game.

Powers is a perfectly acceptable #2 CB, and I say this as someone who was really critical of his original signing.

Pretty harsh words for the play that Powers has given us this year. He is fighting a bad hammy, (this is the third game now), and he, (like Peterson), is expected to cover man to man all over the field. No one on this board feels worse than Powers that he cannot cut sharply or move laterally like he was once able to do, but he is still given the job that he has had from the beginning with no help. Try to imagine moving laterally immediately to mirror a pass route, or to get back onto a ball carrier that has just juked you, (while dragging a bad hammy with you).

You guys realize that this is a passing league and every rule in the book is in favor of the receivers and that there is no fantasy scenario in which we're going to like, hold the opponent to 100 yard passing, right?

The fact that the other 3 starters in the secondary are better than him doesn't mean he's garbage. He's league average for the position. You guys just need someone to pick on, every year the hive mind selects one or two players and insists that they are garbage because they're angry that the team isn't somehow perfect.

Yeah let's cut Minter too, and sign one of those ILBs who can cover Gio Bernard one-on-one. Why don't you name all of them here.

You're explaining that our corners play 75% man coverage as if the people whining about Powers know anything about football.

I know it isn't Burfict who got burned by Johnson for a TD.

Very few people talked about Aaron Francisco being the weak link until he made a fool of himself on the biggest stage possible. Powers' poor play is a concern

I have a feeling Powers is toughing it out and is not full strength... we do not have many CBs on this roster and the whole talk about putting in one of the undrafted guys to take his place is complete lunacy in my opinion, Powers knows this defense and the Cardinals need him :)

Please. The guy had a bad game. Anyone with a set of eyes could see that. Is that mitigated by his injury? Possibly, but either way, he stunk it up out there.

I'll go with BASK's decision on who should be starting. When I see fans (as in plural) calling for a guy who has been waived, then that tells me all I want to know.

I know Ed, but I just hate to hear people getting all over the players who got us here, especially when they are playing injured.

It's DRC who blew the play.

I was at the game and I don't think he's talking one particular play. The last drive in the super bowl AF was the weakest link on the field and Pitt exploited it. The thing I would take exception to is IMO Holmes was the only one on the field who could beat us and Clancy Pendergast didn't recognize that and make adjustments.

You don't have to look much farther than Brown's inability to get separation on a fly pattern to understand what a hinderence a damaged hamstring is. Yes Powers is better on slot receivers. Right now he's still the second best outside cover guy the Cards have. Bethel is a work in progress. He's a skilled athlete, but not a skilled corner. It was nice of the Bengals to run a fly pattern at him; little chance of being left by a move. The missed tackles are a concern but since it's not a previous issue; Powers was likely shielding his hamstring. I'd like to see him get a week off, but Boldin would have Bethel for lunch.

Agreed.

The expectations on defensive backs on this board is, with all due respect, flippin' ridiculous. This board would roast Deion Sanders if he played here.

How about instead of ripping Powers, how about the lack of pass rush that allows QB's to get these long bombs off. Our defensive backfield has to cover receivers for a loooooong time.
