Every year there is a pre-season phenom for Cards fans to get all excited about. Then they start playing for real and the player shows he's a fringe player, or shouldn't be in the NFL.

IIRC, Alphonso Smith led the NFL in rushing during last year's pre-season. Then there was the WR, his name escapes me, who looked good every camp and couldn't catch a ball when it mattered.

Ryan Williams enjoyed legendary status yet never did a thing in a real NFL game.

My pick for this year is Logan Thomas. I think he may come in play well against street free agents in the 3rd and 4th quarters and people will start thinking he's the real deal.

Alternate pick is Stepfan Taylor. I don't think he's much of an NFL back but think he may put up some numbers this pre-season.

Good topic cbus.

I'm gonna say Thomas will be that guy til the day he gets axed because everyone gets caught up in his "measureables & arm strength". John Skelton cough cough.

The guy just hasn't ever produced much more than bad game tape over & over. I know he's a rook, but even last week when the Cards were on NFLN nearly every throw (which were shown, about 7) didn't look on target. I'm even gonna say I've gotten to know a person whom plays WR on the team that says he's struggling with accuracy.

Fells looked awful Saturday. This one isn't happening.

When the pads go on and the tackling starts, players can make an impact. Two young guys who did that during the Fan Fest work were tight end Darren Fells and undrafted rookie defensive tackle Bruce Gaston. Arians mentioned both by name Monday as having caught his eye Saturday, and there is nothing better than having your coach call you out in a good way during a press conference. That’s twice for Fells in a week, too. And as you know, three times is the charm.

It would be like the singing frog from the Bugs Bunny cartoons.

BA spent about half his presser today raving about Fells's play in the scrimmage---said that "the light has gone on" and he is knocking people backward on his blocks which is what he needs to do to make the team. When asked if Fells could catch, BA said his hands are huge and he pretty much gobbles up everything.

Should this be named after Max Hall?

My first thought as well. The Max Hall/Stephen Williams award goes to... Rob Housler. He will play well enough to get traded for a future 7th rounder before the season starts.

Kicker - Chandler Cantanzaro

This kid is out kicking Feely by about 15 yards. Will he be able to do it under pressure though???

The "leg cramp" that has turned into a hamstring injury is very concerning. Especially since he has missed almost a week. Hamstrings can be very bad for speed guys. I hope they are just being overly cautious.

That's it. I would have used his name but I could not, for the life of me, remember it. I kept thinking MarTay Jenkins or Jason McCaddley but knew they weren't right.

Why I remember McCaddley is nerve racking in it's in own right .

Walt Powell.

And shouldn't this really be called the Andy McCullough award?

I'm getting a little worried about John Brown. Every day he's expected back, and every day he's not practicing. Is it more serious than the team has made out? Or do they just want a reason to hold him out of the first PS game?

i think you just have to be super cautious with small WRs with hammy issues. you'd rather he fully healed during the pre-season so he can burn once the real bullets start flying.

what is it with Cardinals WRs and their numbers in the 10-19 range? I don't know why, but it bugs the crap out of me!

That's what all the cool kids like these days. Arians talked about it in a presser--said in Pittsburgh he had to tell Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown to wear numbers in the 80s because that's the Pittsburgh tradition.
