Hi All,

Was at the game, so didn't disect it on TV or anything, but a few observations. Great effort by the whole team overall!

1. Bartel played very well (duh!). Broncos QBs didn't look good (I was very surprised seeing Tebow finished 7/11 passing). I wonder if Bronocos would be interested in a Von Miller for O'Brien Schofield + Rich Bartel trade?! :D

2. Chansi Stuckey finally showed up. Based on Whiz's comments, I think he was going to make the final 53 regardless, but he finally showed that he might actually deserve it and be a veteran presence among all of the younger guys behind Fitz.

3. Spach looked good, and I saw on Urban's blog that Dray strained his pectoral muscle... I prefer Dray, but that might be a really tough decision if it comes down to one or the other (which it almost surely will).

4. Quan Sturdivant finally made an appearance! There was a stretch of like 4 or 5 plays in a row where I recall that his name was called by the announcer (I think 2 solo tackles, one assist, and a pressure on the QB or something like that). Not sure he showed enough throughout the preseason, but if the coaches think they can get that kind of production on a more consistent basis with more work, I wouldn't be shocked if he made it over Reggie Walker (who is what he is at this point - a servicable depth guy).

5. The OL played longer than any of the other starters, and I don't recall anything sticking out as super negative about any of the OL play.

6. We got a pretty good pass rush, but that might be due to how bad the Broncos QBs were. I think this is an area we should be looking at the cuts/wire list and picking someone up if the situation is right.

7. Maui'a and Sherman have both played well this preseason -- I think Maui'a is our best bet at FB and Sherman has special teams stud written all over him. We'd need to commit to using the FB more to justify it, but I'd like to see both of these guys stick.

8. I felt Green and Bennett both struggled in coverage. Not sure if either one of these guys is an answer and this is another area where I would be looking at the cuts/wire for an upgrade, if possible.

9. I think we need a veteran RB. Powell showed some wiggle/burst, but ended with 29 carries for just 60 yards. Unfortunately, Smith didn't get a chance to show anything these last two games - and I think he needed to in order to have any sense of security behind Beanie. I'd try to pick up a vet and stash Smith & Powell on the practice squad, and bring one of them up if the vet isn't cutting it.

10. Outside of the one mentioned minor injury to Dray, I don't think there were any injuries -- and that's the best news of all!!!

(Quick question - what's considered a sell out? The stadium looked very empty on the first punt but Urban was reporting earlier in the week that it was the 55th straight sell out. I'm guessing Season tickets holders who don't show up are included in that?)

How about them penalties, or lack there of? Chalk it up to good coaching or the fact that the first team OL played less than usual (though more than usual for a 4th PS game)?
Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by our discipline.

I knew that was coming. The 4th preseason game is just ridiculous. They should have called the game at halftime instead of asking fans to watch Powell run up the middle 29 times for 2 yards a pop. After about his 5th carry I said he'll probably have more carries in one game than any Cardinal RB in 25 years.

Well I didn't actually watch after a couple of series with Croyle because I knew all CKW was going to do was run Powell up the middle.

:D

Looks like the Broncos lucked out in not trading Orton. Unless they were thinking that a season with Tebow will decide things and then they can try to trade up for Luck.

In any case, I'm really wondering what happens with Tebow. Does he switch positions? Or are there enough OC's in the league he think they can make it work?

It was a fun game. :)

Denver does not look good. I would be worried if I were a Donkeys fan.

It's about time the worm turned. Denver, usually not playing any of their starters, had beaten the Cardinals 8 out of 9 pre season games dating back to 1999.

Their spares would just beat the snot out of our spares. Good to see we're building some real depth and that the Cards have to get to the third string before the game starts to become a keystone kops movie.

Big time. Last night, Tebow looked much worse than I thought. He made some terrible decisions in the pocket (dropping back into a pile of players), throwing across his body constantly, and his release is slower than molasses.

Jurecki said it best on Twitter, "he needs to change positions."

When they said he needed work on his mechanics, I didn't realize it would be a major overhaul. And to the player who blew coverage on the long TD pass (cant remember who), but he should be cut immediately. I think Danny Wuerffel is breathing a sigh of relief that he is no longer the worst Heisman winning Florida QB to enter the NFL.

Orton is no world beater, which is why I didn't want him on the Cards, but he is worlds better than anything on their roster. Broncos either lucked out in not getting the compensation they were seeking or changed their mind last minute.

If you mean the TD to Stuckey it was Sydquan Thompson but to be fair he didn't blow the coverage he got hurt and fell down, he was still down on the field after the TD.

It's based on ticket sales, not tickets scanned at the gate. Yes, all STH's who didn't show counted. They don't have to count expensive club level seating toward a sellout, I think.

Sturdivant

No. 54 called defensive plays from the Mike position and showed an uncanny knack for locating the ball when in the midst of inside traffic.

But he also could be observed being knocked backward in the gap.

Walker didn't show me anything (this time) but he has in previous preseason games.
