First of all, let's extend our heartfelt thanks to Chieftain for apprising us of Jim's condition and then sadly of his passing. That was pretty hard to do and you did it with such class, Chieftan. Thank you so much. And if you wouldn't mind, if you (or anyone else) hear of the details of Jim's services would you please pass them along?

For those of you who live close by, if you can manage the time, it would be great if ASFNers could attend Jim's wake and/or funeral in droves, and I don't think it would be inappropriate to wear Cardinal jerseys (I know that may sound highly unusual, but I honestly believe Jim would be thrilled by such a gesture).

For those of us who live too far away or cannot make the services, I know I will be sending flowers for the Skane family...and wouldn't it be cool if those of us who send flowers send them with the cards signed with our ASFN member names?

And now...let's all think of ways in which we can preserve Jim's legacy...

One thing I thought of is to honor one of Skkorp's greatest and most emphatic pleas: to lay off the Rod Graves ad hominems. And I often tried to defer to Jim's wisdom and intuition where RG was concerned, but I wasn't always entirely successful. Therefore, I pledge to do so for at least an entire year...and I hope that if you see merit in this, you will too. However, the board shouldn't blame if you don't.

The other thing I thought of is for us from time to time predict what witticism Skkorp would say about a topic. You know: WWSS...what would Skkorp say?

It will be great to hear what you all come up with as well...we will do this as a team...for we are the team that Skkorp built (and we have the great opportunity to preserve Skkorp's legacy and make it last as long as there is an ASFN!). We certainly owe all our fondness for ASFN to Skkorp.

I know I have had a very hard time clicking on any other threads today and I am sure you have been too. Right now the current state of the Arizona Cardinals seems to matter very little. BUT...let's remember what Skkorp would want...he would want us all here doing what he brought us here to do...volleying thoughts and emotions about our beloved Cardinals. So, in this sense I think we should all rage on, even though it's very difficult.

What Shakespeare would likely say this night about Skkorp's passing: "A great light has gone out."

Well, let's all pledge to make sure that this light keeps shining on our hearts and this ASFN board for as long as time and memory permits.

Been crying much of the day...I know you have been too. But there's great solace in knowing our dear friend is at peace.

Good night great Captain, good night...

You light shines on in the darkness...

MItch, you've put into words what I have been thinking all day.

I know that his family is overwhelmed right now, but if they do decide to have a public service I hope they let us know. I'd be honored to attend.

You're awesome, Dems.

Thank you Mitch, but it was Jim who was awesome.

This past season was my first on this board. (Which I found through the grace of God.) I moved here from L.A. and as a huge NFL fan I was thrilled to have a home-team to cheer for. And I kept meeting people who couldn't wait to put down the Cardinals. You can imagine what I heard.

Finding this board was like meeting family. And I learned that it was Jim who put it all together.

I'm a fan. I'm not the smartest fan, and I cheer way too much with just my heart. But I was able to learn a lot about the Cardinals and football from reading the posts on this board. (And I learned what it was like to cheer for a team in a stadium when it was 110 degrees and you all were sitting in the sun and the team wasn't playing very well.)

Because of Jim's work in starting this board I had a home to come to and a place to hear all the stories.

And you know, I'm a good Christian lady and I mean no disrespect, but I don't want Jim to Rest In Peace. Sorry, but I want him to march up to God and say, "You know, just going to the Superbowl wasn't good enough. We need to win the thing!"

:newcards:WE DO THIS FOR SKKORP!!!

Thanks again Mitch --- for my part, if given the opportunity to choose between positive and negative, I will try to choose the positive approach in my postings so as to honor Skorp's Legacy. He was a superb role-model for us to follow.

Everybody has to watch one Notre Dame football game this season. You not only have to cheer for the Irish, you have to like it too!

I wish I could say everything I am feeling. I wish I could have met him in person to personally thank him for this wonderful site. Instead I will have to say it to him in my prayers.
Rest in Peace, my Friend. You will be missed.

A huge loss.

My heart goes out to his family.

I will also strive to honor Skkorp's memory from here on out, by the manner is which I post on ASFN.

Vaya con Dios, Skkorp. Vaya con Dios.

Skkorp would have slapped me via PM if I agreed to this, sorry.

I am honored that Skkorp chose an avatar that I created -- he nicely asked me if he could use my parody Cardinals logo for his own. Of course, I said absolutely.

It's a recolored Cards logo in the colors of the Pyrrhuloxias - the Desert Cardinal:

This logo will always be Skkorps from now on...

I know your heart is in the right place, but please have someone talk to the family first. They may want donations sent in lieu of flowers and also, it's going to be an extremely hard day for them so they may not be up to greeting hundreds of people.

I would suggest putting together a framed card that contains all of the posts from his passing with the usernames and sending it to them so they can read it when they're ready.

Why dont we have a annual Jim Skane award. It would be a yearly award given to a fan who best promotes the Cardinals Fandom for that given year?? Can call it the Skkorp trophy or somthing like that.
