First of all, let's extend our heartfelt thanks to Chieftain for apprising us of Jim's condition and then sadly of his passing. That was pretty hard to do and you did it with such class, Chieftan. Thank you so much. And if you wouldn't mind, if you (or anyone else) hear of the details of Jim's services would you please pass them along?
For those of you who live close by, if you can manage the time, it would be great if ASFNers could attend Jim's wake and/or funeral in droves, and I don't think it would be inappropriate to wear Cardinal jerseys (I know that may sound highly unusual, but I honestly believe Jim would be thrilled by such a gesture).
For those of us who live too far away or cannot make the services, I know I will be sending flowers for the Skane family...and wouldn't it be cool if those of us who send flowers send them with the cards signed with our ASFN member names?
And now...let's all think of ways in which we can preserve Jim's legacy...
One thing I thought of is to honor one of Skkorp's greatest and most emphatic pleas: to lay off the Rod Graves ad hominems. And I often tried to defer to Jim's wisdom and intuition where RG was concerned, but I wasn't always entirely successful. Therefore, I pledge to do so for at least an entire year...and I hope that if you see merit in this, you will too. However, the board shouldn't blame if you don't.
The other thing I thought of is for us from time to time predict what witticism Skkorp would say about a topic. You know: WWSS...what would Skkorp say?
It will be great to hear what you all come up with as well...we will do this as a team...for we are the team that Skkorp built (and we have the great opportunity to preserve Skkorp's legacy and make it last as long as there is an ASFN!). We certainly owe all our fondness for ASFN to Skkorp.
I know I have had a very hard time clicking on any other threads today and I am sure you have been too. Right now the current state of the Arizona Cardinals seems to matter very little. BUT...let's remember what Skkorp would want...he would want us all here doing what he brought us here to do...volleying thoughts and emotions about our beloved Cardinals. So, in this sense I think we should all rage on, even though it's very difficult.
What Shakespeare would likely say this night about Skkorp's passing: "A great light has gone out."
Well, let's all pledge to make sure that this light keeps shining on our hearts and this ASFN board for as long as time and memory permits.
Been crying much of the day...I know you have been too. But there's great solace in knowing our dear friend is at peace.
Good night great Captain, good night...
You light shines on in the darkness...
