But then why should the teams be able to back out of a contract by cutting a player, but the player not have a right to ask to have his contract redone?

I never said that Holmes can't ask for a new contract. I just don't think he should hold out.

The team has every right to cut someone. It is like my boss or your boss have the right to dump us at any time from our respective jobs. Pretty simple if you ask me.

Sit out means a $5000 per day fine..... I don't think that is fair to be honest.

Pop warner can be crazier..... ever see some of those parents screaming on the sidelines??

I like this debate because you can't go wrong no matter which way you go. Holmes should honor his contract because he agreed to it; after all, two million per isn't chump change. The Chiefs, however, should think about resigning him to a long-term contract that favors him and the team. I would think he would play because money is everything with most of these guys but I'm sure he will not be as aggressive as he could be if he is thretening to sit the year out.

I'm a little suprised that Holmes is talking about sitting out. Everything that I have read about him says that he is not all about the money and is a very down to earth and humble man.

Since RB's careers are so short then I can understand him wanting to cash in while he still can. Remember what happened with Terrel Davis, he got his huge pay day and then got hurt almost immediately, obviously not on purpose.

This is why players contracts are such a volitile topic. Owners don't want to kill their cap and therefore the teams chance of winning and players want to insure their future.

Didn't Holmes get hurt at the end of last year? Are the chiefs now getting a little concerned about his health? Is Holmes getting concerned about his health?

However, I do have a problem with guys holding out. YOU signed a contract. No one else but YOU! If you don't get what you want, suck it up, play it out and move the hell on to a division team so you can shove it up the Chiefs butt twice a year! :D

So then how is it different when a team cuts a player? They signed the contract too they should own up to it also. It goes both ways. Players hold out when they are not being compensated fairly and owners cut their losses when the player is being over compensated.

If you think Priest should play then I guess you think we should pay Thomas Jones this year too. We signed a contract with him we should honor it and pay him.

You guys are off base on this one because like any mystery you have not discovered an important piece of missing information. Priest Holmes hurt his hip and misssed the last 2 games of the regular season and the Pro Bowl. As of 3 weeks ago it was reported that he couldn't walk up steps because he couldn't lift his legs. Although his doctor says that he should be ready by training camp, the Chiefs remain concerned because of the similiarities between this injury and the career ending hip injury of Bo Jackson. Holmes wants the team to tear up his old contract and give him a new more lucrative long term deal. The team on the other hand wants to wait and see if Holmes comes back all the way. I certainly can't fault them for that. A kicker to this whole situation is that the Chiefs are looking for a back-up to Holmes who caould take over the position if Prist can't answer the bell. Perfect place to get rid of a certain running back on our team for maybe a #2 or #3. This is the kind of offense that Jones could succeed in. Good trade for both teams.
