Prince William and Prince George react during a soccer game on April 15, 2025
Prince William and Prince George rode the emotional rollercoaster that every sports fan knows too well during their latest soccer outing.
The father and son were spotted in the stands at Villa Park on Tuesday, April 15, hoping to cheer Aston Villa on to victory in the second part of their Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain. After attending the first part of the match-up in Paris on April 9, Prince George and Prince William traveled to Birmingham for the home game, where Aston Villa were tasked with making up the difference after a 3-1 loss last week.
The team got off to a slow start and was down 2-0 going into halftime. However, they rallied back to take the lead 3-2, which was the final score, cutting their overall deficit to one.
Throughout it all, Prince George, 11, and Prince William, 42, didn't hide their emotions. At points, William covered his face with his hands — but the pair also celebrated with smiles and hands in the air following Aston Villa's goals.

The exciting game was yet another father-son outing for William and George after the Prince of Wales quipped last week that he’d “left the other two at home,” referring to Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
"I thought, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition," William told TNT Sports, referring to the team's first European quarterfinal in that time. "I hope it's not 43 years until the next time it happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and to bring him along tonight is a big deal for me."

Prince George often joins his father at soccer games, hinting that he will continue his father's tradition of supporting Aston Villa. Prince William once said his eldest son was “part of the pride," a phrase used to denote fans of Aston Villa, whose insignia features a lion.
However, Prince William has shared how all three of his children play a role in his superstitions about the club.
"If we’re not doing very well, I start moving round the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that’s going to change our luck,” he told The Sun in an interview published on March 14.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are currently on a school break ahead of the Easter holiday. Prince William and Kate Middleton, 43, typically try to keep work to a minimum when their kids are on break in order to spend time as a family.
The couple's decision to focus on their family during school breaks is just one example of how they're raising their children differently than previous generations of royals.
