Is Leonard dogged by many on this board because:

1. He truly isnt a very good tackle, or
2. Being the 2nd overall pick in the draft, we expected more than a upper third of the league left tackle, or
3. We dont really know how to evaluate left tackle play

I ask this because there are times he makes me want to kick the tv --

but at the same time -- this is twice in a row that the people who watch film and play against him have voted Big the 5th (or 6th with O. Pace injured) best tackle in the conference out of 32 tackles. Thats really pretty good.

All tackles give up sacks from time to time -- heck, the acknowleged best LT in the game -- Walter Jones -- got beaten by Chike for a key sack with the game on the line.

Just wondering.

People focus on the negatives about BIG, (false starts, possibly playing out of his best position) and not on the positives. That's what it boils down to.

Praise for Aaron - and a Lesson...

The selection of Aaron Francisco as 2nd alternate was a deserved one. It should also teach us a lesson.

For years and years, we've whined that many worthy Cardinals weren't getting to the Pro Bowl because we weren't winning and nobody out of town knew about us.

Guess what? Here's a guy plugging away on special teams for a 4 & 10 football team - not terribly spectacular, but consistent and reliable. Obviously, NFL players and coaches played against him, watched tape and took notice.

And lo & behold, Aaron Francisco got recognized. And he didn't have to wait a gazillion years to get it either.

Which means that if you play well consistently for any NFL team (including ours), if you're good enough, you'll get your due.

I just don't get the bashing of Big. The false starts are very annoying but giving up sacks would be more annoying. I for one think he has done a good job protecting Lineart. The line has played much better since Ross and Step have been removed. We need to keep Big.

Good point, it also points to him being the starter next year.

Isn't he an alternate as a special teamer? If so, I don't think it necessarily points to a starting position in the secondary.

That would make more sense, wouldn't it? He has been a great special teamer. Between him and Milligan, they both should be there.

Yeah, the Cardinals special teams are great.

They have been better of late -- interestingly - special team wise the Cards won the battle in four of the last five weeks.

When they "won" special teams, they were 3-1.

Last week, they lost the battle -- penalty on a made field goal and then giving up two long returns -- and lost the game.

I take this as a sign of things getting better. It seems that only a few years ago the only Cardinals players who went to the Pro-Bowl were the kickers and the punter. Those are not the positions you want going to the pro-bowl!

I really think we need to sign Big to a long term contract. He is not an elite LT but he is better than anything else out there.

Not really. Milligan went to the Pro Bowl last season as a special teamer, didn't he? His reward was to be cut in training camp.

There are all kinds of things to watch other than the Pro Bowl (or Browl).

Movies, tivo'd TV shows, etc. Or you could read a book, play a game, spend time with your family or get outdoors!

Tons of alternatives.

All this talk, and I never end up watching the probowl anyway. I always end up doing one of the things that you mentioned.

Not only basing it on his play but there are so many to keep Davis it should be a no-brainer.It's too bad the Cards front office usually operates with no brains. This is 2 years in a row that hes' been voted by his peers as a top 10 LT in the league and he's only going to get better.

For a long time I had thought that Adrian Wilson was an exceptional athlete who got by on freakish physical ability. What I doubted was that he'd ever be able to couple that with a mind to excel as a saftey.

So far, I'm thrilled to report, I've been wrong. He's been getting better the last two years in all aspects of his game and he's more than deserved the accolades that he's been given so far.

(here comes the "but", wait for it)

Before I anoint him the perennial player's player I want him to become I want some long term consistancy. This is the "what have you done for me lately" league after all.

Also on this topic I'd like to address Davis, who has been for all intentions, a remarkably similar player to a casual eye. Both have gotten by on physical prowess. The difference is, Wilson seems to have made his mind match his game while Davis has (if not plateau'd) crept along the foothills of techincal progress.

An NFL career only lasts so long and if Davis doesn't make his Zen sync now that it might never happen.

He's not bad, he's just not what we were all hoping he could be. Keep him until something better comes along, and if it doesn't, just keep him.
