Probably not true, but did the Maxx injury take the life out of the offense (until late)? How do we replace him

I saw a few running lanes that would have been opened with Maxx blocking. We also wouldnt tip on our on some plays with him out there if we wanted to pass.

I thought the offense was fine until he got injured. Then it really became a physical game and we lost maybe our toughest player on offense.

Im probably overstating it as the 49ers still have a elite dline, we lost Hudson, Kyler may just been off that 2nd half regardless, etc.

Kyler was hurt. Sounded like they said he had a bicep soreness. Maxx going down is going to be big but hopefully we can find someone somewhat similar. Hudson I feel won't miss a game.

The question is do you use valuable future assets to acquire a TE? Maxx being a FA says you can as long as you get extra years.

Gisiki is a terrible blocker. Max is our 2nd best blocker behind Hudson.

I don't know who is out there is a trade, but they have to be able to block. Otherwise we might as just run 4 wrs

I'd try for OJ Howard, but with Gronk hurt they may not trade.

Ertz has to be an option as well.

Fitz is a great blocker...for a WR...and mostly because of effort. He cannot block the way Max Williams does. We should look at Jesse James. He can't cost much and would be a decent fill in with experience.

Is this where the “bring Larry Fitzgerald back to play TE” begin?

You know it. And sign me up for a Fitz return.

In all seriousness he's been posting more Cardinals stuff lately. And more importantly I truly dont think Larry could block any worse than Travis and Harris today. Yeesh.

Gesicki is not a great blocker, but he is a better receiving target. And he is a willing blocker. He would be a great add for our offense but he is a FA so you would want some kind of extension to go with the acquisition unless it costs very little.

Your list.

Zach Ertz
Mike Gesicki
Lee Smith
Kyle Rudolph
Evan Engram (but he is less of a blocker than any on the list)

I don't believe the Bucs are trading Howard at this point.
Same with Njoku since he is more valuable in their offense than OBJ.

So, best blocker replacement is probably Rudolph. Best all around is Gesicki.

We better bring in somebody credible for Browns week.

If Keim really does nothing/waits to see us struggle with no TE, smh

Not really and we have Daniels on the roster to block. Don't discount that Maxx in the passing game has been a huge asset. Get the best player and then supplement as needed.
My thinking is there is not who can block and catch like Maxx available in the league this time of the year. It is rather easier to find someone who can run block great and occasionally catch a pass to keep the element of surprise. Players with these skills are likely to be available in practice squads across the league. If they can find someone with Maxx skills that would be terrific.
