.........but I'd love to see it. And as all the old posters know it use to be this way. Since there are more teams in the NFL I've upped the ante from one to two teams per year. Here is my idea, and that is to bring back an oldie but goodie:

On the night of the draft all 32 teams would go into a hat, one ticket per team. And each year two tickets would be picked out, and these two teams would get the first and the second pick in the draft. The two teams would then be removed from the lottery until all 32 teams are selected (16 years). IMO, the tv ratings for the draft would go through the roof. Anyone else like this idea?

No.

I don't like the idea of the elite NFL teams possibly having the first pick in the draft. It really leaves the table set for dominance. I'd prefer a lottery system for the first 10 picks if we have to leave something to random chance.

If you're going to do a lottery, why not go all the way?

For each player in the draft, why not draw one of the 32 teams out of a hat.

Or let each of the 32 teams take turns drawing a player out of a pool of 300 players out of a hat?

When teams reach a preset limit as to the numbers of players they can get, they're removed from the drawing.

Or do what med schools do - Each player puts the name of the teams he wants to go to in priority of choice into a computer. The teams do likewise ranking the players & inputting into the computer. Then let the computer match teams to players.

Or even better, don't fix what ain't broke.

Teams then bid their set number of points for draft slots. Lets say you were desperate for a franchise QB: bid all your points for the #1 pick. Lets say you think the best value is in slots #25 to #50: bid your points for as many picks as you can get in that range.

As each slot came up -- it would be bidding (blind) with the winner revealed after submitting high bid.

As a financial type, that would be fun to watch.

You are rewarding losing. Mike Greenberg had a great idea. The 12 teams that make the playoffs draft 21-32. The other 20 teams would be in a lottery.

HOWEVER! Instead of the worst team getting 20 ping pong balls, the best record not making the playoffs would get the 20 ping pong balls. The worst team would get 1 ping pong ball.

The results would mean the worst team COULD still get the #1 pick. It would create a competitive situation NOT to have the worst record. This idea rewards a team to continue to compete even if they are not going to make the playoffs.

The system is already set up for that. What your proposal would introduce would be for the middle to top teams a way to get better faster.

losing our last game vs Seahawks (we were out of any playoffs hope) could have given us a higher draft pick. The idea of a team locking #1 or #2 draft by tanking their last game should be dealt with not rewarded
I like NBA system when 1st draft is a lottery among some teams.so no way we could have said Colts locked #1.

Maybe the truly dreadful -- but honestly, at that point, dont you think Colt and Ram fans were rooting for them to lose out and get the #1 pick?

A bigger problem is with teams that have locked down their playoff spot pretty much giving up the last week of the season rather than the bad teams.

I think it should be a free economic system to the fullest. Players should be able to pick what team they want to sign with after negotiating with other teams they like. The balance would occur by players not wanting to sign with a good team that already has a good player at their position. They would naturally be filling in spots most needed by lesser teams as much as the good teams. All players want to have the best shot at starting at their position. I think that this nfl form of natural selection would work out great for all teams.

Or you'd have one team full of superstars, with players taking less to win a championship. Or, a team that can pay a whole lot more to those players than other teams can, so they attract all of the main players.

As far as the lottery idea goes, it's just not fair. A team on the bottom rung needs to continually be able to load up with top talent to become a contender. If they are eliminated from drafting stars, they won't be able to succeed. The only reason it works in the NBA is because one star player can change a franchise. Not so in the NFL.

The system presently works! That's why the people love the draft if their team SUCKS....like ours did all those years. It brings some hope.

Look at Carolina...they were NOTHING....now they have some hope.
