The Indianapolis Colts have reshaped their cornerback room within the first week of free agency. So, what does that depth chart look like now?

After another disappointing season of secondary play, GM Chris Ballard was again answering questions in his end-of-season press conference about the cornerback and safety positions.

"We've got to get better," said Ballard about the cornerback and safety positions.

This was a collective unit that ranked in the bottom third of the NFL in completion rate, yards per pass attempt allowed, passer rating, and pass deflections, according to Pro Football Reference.

While the addition of Charvarius Ward is obviously going to stand out at the cornerback spot specifically, we've also seen Ballard bolster the depth by bringing in an experienced player in Corey Ballentine as well.

However, the reshaping of this room started a few months ago when the team hired Lou Anarumo as the new defensive coordinator. Anarumo's coaching background is rooted in the secondary, and his aggressive, disguise-heavy scheme has produced some productive secondary units in Cincinnati.

Along with Anarumo, the Colts also brought in two experienced and accomplished defensive back coaches in Chris Hewitt and Jerome Henderson.

Very quickly, this cornerback room has gone from a major question mark to doing a complete 180. As of now, here is what the depth chart could look like for the Colts:

Starting boundary CB: Charvarius Ward

Starting nickel CB: Kenny Moore

Starting boundary CB: Jaylon Jones

Depth chart off the bench

  • JuJu Brents
  • Samuel Womack
  • Corey Ballentine
  • Alex Johnson

Obviously, playing a key role in determining what the depth chart looks like off the bench will be training camp and the preseason. But I think the Colts give Brents the opportunity to be at the top of that unit, while I gave Womack the nod for now over Ballentine, given his experience last season.
