A couple of weeks ago, I actually caught "The Mike Walker Show" on my way through LA. Mike Walker is the well-known celebrity gossip columnist for the Enquirer.

He told a caller that the Enquirer was a legitimate source and said that his boss had a standing bet of $10,000 if anyone could present a completely bogus story which they had printed. He said the "JFK is alive," "Bat-boy," and "Alien baby" stories are published by other tabloids which share their location in the grocery store - right at the checkout. He said the bogus tabloids were "The Star," "Weekly World News," etc.

He said they are sued all the time, but only by those people upset that they got exposed.

His words not mine.

Oh please. That's because they put everything in the context of hearsay, just like all gossip columnists. "An unnamed source" says this, or "a physician who refused to be identified" says something else. It is a transparent dodge. If anyone actually calls them on their bogus stories, they can always insist that there really was an unnamed source, and that their editorial policy prevents them from saying who it was.

I could make up any absurd story you want right now -- like, let's say, George W. Bush is genetically female -- and claim that I got the information from someone else. No matter how hard you press me, I'll just keep saying, "I'm only repeating what I was told." Am I spreading false information or not? You be the judge.

lol...I guess we'll see how close the enquirer is to "guessing" about the $5 mil. figure.

I think a lot of people would believe that. :D

Jusy kidding.

I agree with you - transparent dodge, although it is the other tabloids that do the more bizarre JFK/alien stories.

:D 'National Enquirer' Still More Accurate Than 'New York Times'

PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash) -- The current scandal with the "New York Times" over the editorial fakery provided by reporter Jayson Blair proves the newspaper has all the news that's fit -- to lie.

That's the opinion of former tabloid journalist Peter Fenton, who says the boo-boos Blair got away with at the "Times" never would have passed muster at a so-called "sleazy" supermarket weekly like the "National Enquirer."

Tabloid headlines are typically more sensational than the stodgy ones at the "Times" but Fenton says tabloid editors are more concerned with facts.

For instance, the "Enquirer" requires reporters to read direct quotes back to sources -- and get the response on tape. The "Times" doesn't do that, nor does it require reporters to provide contact numbers or even bother to check expense accounts to see what the journalist really did with his or her time. Fenton says the so-called "fabri-gate" scandal was just waiting to happen, and figures it proves the "Enquirer" is still more reliable than the "New York Times."

A nice, impartial perspective, right?

You mean to tell me that Elvis and JFK are NOT living in Area 51 with all the Extraterrestial biological entities?

You have to be kidding me. :p

Well now. This case in ending up so that almost everyone involved looks bad.

Kobe. No vindication in court. Issues an apology that basically says "I thought it was consensual, she did not." Which is an admission of guilt since what she thought is what matters. He obviously is not worried about the civil case. Looks like he is going to save himself alot of legal fees from here out.

Victim. No vindication in court. Looks like a gold digger of the highest order. At best, she is willing to place a payoff above justice. Has Kobe deliver a public apology that allows her to save face. I wonder when the book is coming out?

Prosecution. No case outside of the witness. Bungling at the expense of their witness lost them their witness. Burgers anyone!

Defense. Strung it out long enough to collect some big fees. Gets their client off in the end, so he's happy. Victim is going to get big bucks and book and movie rights? The Lawyers will now be the ones who can list Kobe on their resumes. These are the big winners.
