There's a glowing LED circle around the power button that flashes different colors.

Green means it's on/reading.

The red flashing color means there is an error. Most of the time it's just a resetable fix but it's reputation is akin to the Microsoft Blue Screen of Death because sometimes it's a hardware issue and you either have to try to return it from where you got it, or back to microsoft for a new system.

Microsoft recently extended it's warranty out to one year because the problems with the system were so frequent.

Frequent and bad batch are 2 different things. They finally are admitting that some of the launch batches were bad. However, their overall failure rate is no different then any other consumer electronics device. At least I commend them for extending the warranty for those with the manufacturing problem.

Well, by extending the warranty, they are only increasing it to the electronic standard of 1 year. ;)

The main reason Sony is losing a lot of exclusives right now is because it no longer has the head start on the install base that it did with the PS2. It no longer makes sense for developers to exclude revenues from other systems to have it just on PS3. The other reason is that the PS3 is a bitch to program for. At our studio we had prototyped our game out on 360 months before we had anything to show for PS3. The cell processor, while super powerful from all accounts, is not very developer friendly.

If you looked at the latest NPD data, PS3 is sagging behind quite a bit. I don't see that trend changing until they release an exclusive 'Killer App'. The next Metal Gear Solid is probably it but I believe it's releasing roughly the same time as Halo 3. Talk about bad timing...

I currently have 360 and I just love how easy the online is for it to navigate with and the video marketplace is really good also for downloading movies and game demos and other things. I will also get a ps3 in the future when it drops in price a little and mgs 4 comes out for it but at this point I just see no reason to get it when I already have 360 and a lot of good games. Both systems will do really well in the future and i'm looking forward to see which one comes out on top.

is metal gear soilid 4 going to be released in xbox 360?

No it's not. However, Hideo Kojima (creator of MGS) is making an all new exclusive franchise for the 360 in the same light. Also, latest word is that MGS for the PS3 won't even hit the shelf now until sometime in 08. Delayed do to development problems? Wouldn't be surprised.

Update: Now there is conflicting reports that it will in fact come to the 360 but the following year.
