Anybody else have a major issue with this? I don't mean the PS4 and XBOX One coming out with revised versions of the hardware. However, traditionally those are simply things like using less power and running more efficiently.

This is the part about this that bugs me:

"Sony and Microsoft had promised them a new hardware, which would support Netflix's 4K content."

What the heck? So Sony and Microsoft plan on splitting the user base so that you either have a console that will support 4K or have one that will not? This seems wrong.

Thoughts?

I think they will, but won't for another year or so. They don't want to piss people off too soon after they just bought next gen. 2.5 years after the console comes out seems like long enough to release a 'slim' version.

I think it's going to piss people off anyway. They talked about both consoles being "capable" of 4K support before they were released. Now it appears....nah...maybe not so much.

I am a year or two away probably. I really don't have a much of a desire for 3d and there isn't enough 4k programming for me to need that either. I bet I will need a new TV in about a year or two though. My one rear protection tv is close to 10 years old now.

I love 3D and already have an extensive collection. I am pricing out 3d Projectors at the moment and might pull the trigger this year or next. Also, you are right that 4K content is not very abundant but the discs are coming.

What is interesting is that I read that both consoles could technically do 4K but could not handle 4K visuals in gaming. I guess that's why I am confused. Not it appears they can't?

The thing that will absolutely make this blowup for gamers is if the new consoles allow for 4K visuals in gaming. Not only would that piss gamers off but developers. One of the advantages of console development is not having to deal with the multiple levels of gaming cards in PC's. It's cheaper from a development perspective.

I don't think they are going there because it would be a disaster but I am still interested to know how the consoles went from being 4K capable to not being 4K capable.

Sounds like they could handle the processing power, but not the graphical end....
