Thomas Jane Gives Punisher 2 Update
Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News
February 13, 2005

A scooper for Ain't-It-Cool-News attended the Dallas Comic Con Convention this weekend, where Thomas Jane revealed some new details on The Punisher 2.

The moderator asked Thomas Jane about there being rumors of a possible Punisher 2. Thomas' respone was....."Oh, is that still just a rumor?" We all perked up, Niles asked Jane if he could talk about this, and Thomas said "Why Not." Jane let the cat out of the bag and told the room that yesterday at a studio in north Dallas (he dropped the name, but I don't remember it), they filmed the teaser for Punisher 2. Tom O'Brien, the cover art model of Frank Castle for the Punisher comics who was also at the Con, was also at the shoot yesterday in full costume. Jane said that on his phone, he owns the only picture of himself and the "real" Punisher, both in full costume, standing next to each other. No word on when or where we will see this trailer though.

Jane said that while the script is not finished, he is working closely with the team. He said that he is doing EVERYTHING he can do to get the setting moved to the burroughs of New York and that Jigsaw is "more than likely" going to be the villian in the movie.

Hopefully, they've learned from some of their mistakes. Sounds like Jane has identified at least one of them...Tampa? Why Tampa?

Tom Jane Gives Punisher 2 Update

IESB.net caught up with The Punisher star Tom Jane who talked a bit about the sequel:

Thomas Jane told the IESB that the Punisher sequel script is currently being worked on and they expect production to start in two months. Location wise it looks like Tampa is out and New York is in.

Jane has been telling people that they're going to start filming this summer.

I like Thomas Jane in general. I only like him okay in this roll. I wish he'd lighten up on the mean-guy voice.

The orginal was pretty good.
I know I'm the only one in the room, but I dug Tampa setting cause I grew up just south of there, so I knew most of the places they showed in the flick. Like going home, which was fun for me.

The Punisher 2 to Film in Louisiana
Source: Retroman, Noonch
March 11, 2006

The Ledger reports that The Punisher 2 will shoot in Louisiana, instead of Tampa, Florida, where the first film was shot:

Levin said Thursday that two Lionsgate movies will move into production in Louisiana soon - "PDR," which stands for Philadelphia Recreation Department, and "Punisher 2."

The Louisiana Secretary of State's official website has listings for the film as well.

A buddy of mine told me that Jane (a comic book fan who does some amatuer writing and takes his comics pretty seriously) dropped out of this one because it started sucking so bad.

That's bad news if he felt the first one didn't offend his comic book senses enough to drop out but this one did.

:(

I thought Jane, despite his terrible tough-guy voice, was a decent Frank Castle.

Fortunately, I don't think Castle is a tough character to portray, and it won't be tough to find another good fit--even if he's an unknown.

That is awful news.

Ah well, comic movies had a good run, the inevitable slide back to the bad days may have begun.

I just saw a trailer for Clive Owen's new one, "Shoot 'Em Up." It made me wish he was playing Castle; provided he can do a decent American accent, he's be bloody perfect.

3 sign for 'Punisher: War Zone'

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dominic West, Doug Hutchison and Wayne Knight will strap on the bulletproof vests for Lionsgate and Marvel Studios’ Punisher: War Zone, the actioner based on the Marvel Comics character being directed by Lexi Alexander.

Ray Stevenson already is on board to portray the Marvel vigilante.

West is in negotiations to play the Punisher’s archenemy known as Jigsaw, a mob assassin whose face was torn to shreds and stitched back together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Hutchison has taken on the role of LBJ aka Looney Bin Jim, a chemically unbalanced lunatic who considers the world his own private killing field and goes on a maniacal rampage.

Knight is in negotiations to play Microchip, the Punisher’s armorer and confident- the man who supplies him with his stockpile of weapons and one of the few people who knows the Punisher’s true identity.

Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel’s Kevin Feige are producing, and Avi Arad is executive producing. Shooting is scheduled to begin in October in Montreal.

This one has been getting raked over by the critics.
I'll withhold judgment for myself, I just think I'll wait for it to be on cable before I judge.

With a cast like that I'm surprised this movie wasn't straight to video.

I liked Thomas Jane as Frank Castle, but I guess he's a stinking drunk now or maybe just smart to stay away from this. The guy in the current encarnation seems to lack any distinguishing qualities in the clips and trailors that I have seen
