NFL analyst -- and former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver -- Cris Collinsworth added his take on the Carson Palmer conundrum during an appearance on Rich Eisen's multi-platform podcast for NFL.com.

In Collinsworth's view, Bengals owner Mike Brown will eventually acquiesce to a trade, considering that the team now has a plan in place to move forward with Andy Dalton. It's a similar argument to some that have been made in the past, but it may possess a little more credence coming from someone whose paychecks used to come from the organization.

For the Cards, I've heard little to no reports about a possible move to acquire Carson. It's all been rumors of trading for Kolb or Orton and signing Bulger. I think Carson would rather play in SF because his wife is from there, but they are probably going to re-sign Alex Smith and have Kapernack (sp) in the mold. Also, being that he is still good friends with Leinart, I'm sure Matty has no good things to say about the inner workings of the organization. Who knows what kind of impact that would have if he were to be traded here.

It's a shame because he would fit in our system well and have about 4-5 years left in the tank.

Depends on if the owner wants to be stubborn or smart when the lockout is over, I think Palmer is banking on the smart. I've also seen somewhere the Bengals might not be too high on resigning their RB Benson. The only reason they would want to keep Palmer would be to run it until their new Rookie could go right?

Bengals can be a completely new team on the offensive side of the ball, much like the Az Cardinals and probably more so. Palmer, Benson, TO, and Oncho all gone. I think they try and pick up a vet QB to let Dalton chill.

As far as Collinsworth goes she has about as much NFL insight as my pinky toe. Remember he called us "THE WORST PLAYOFF TEAM IN NFL HISTORY" then we went to the superbowl, and were within 2:37 of winning it. He can pack sand.

Beggers can't be chosers. Do you not want him because you think he'll cost to much or are you crazy enough to think he isn't better then Scud/Skelton/Hall?

I don't want him simply because he is a shell of his former self IMO. If you have two pieces of garbage and one piece of garbage is better then the other.....you still have garbage.

i agree with TJ that Palmer has 4 or 5 years left in the tank. i think he would fit in great here and also help our up and coming QB. to me he would change this team just like Warner did. we are in desperate need of an expedience QB to take us back and i am tired of this rebuilding crap. i do think that this will be whiz' do or die year. if we have a year like last year then the clock will be ticking on him.

Well, Ok. I guess what I'm saying is if one QB is going to win you 6 games and the other is going to win you 9 shouldn't the 9 win guy be an option?

Finding a quality QB isn't easy. At the very least Palmer is an upgrade from what we have. If other options dry up, you're telling me you'd rather sit through a 6-10 year with Skelton vs a legitimate shot at the playoffs with Palmer?

I guess I am being less optimistic. I think the guy would win you 6 games max.

the guy still completes over 60% and has more TDs than INTs every year except for the one year he only played 4 games...and is only 31 yrs old. I'll take that "shell"

If we had this "shell" last year completing 61%, throwing for 3900 yds and 26 TDs we would have won the division by early December.

I like Pamer as well as any of the other potentially available qbs. I just don't think that owner Mike Brown will trade him. He will rather have him sit in a retirement status to prove a point.

It's his mental mistakes. He throws 54.6% on 3rd downs. Was the 3rd worst in interceptions and had 7 fumbles. That tells me when the pressure is on and when you need yards....he can't get it done. Has that not been one of the problems we have had post Warner??

Maybe it just circumstance but I am just not sure Palmer is the answer. Then again, people thought the same of Warner.

I would say the biggest problems post Warner were not being able to get the ball in the endzone and terrible inaccuracy.

Palmer's problems with his 2 diva WRs were well documented, there has been a lot of talk of those 2 running the wrong routes. I wouldn't be surprised if he was absolutely fed up with their circus--which might explain why he had better games with out 85 & TO.

I agree on all points.

But is he better than Kyle Orton ?

Note: I hope and pray this organization does NOT pick of Kevin Kolb.

Another former Bengal(and Cardinal) speaking about the overall situation(not Palmer in particular):

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?sl..._esiason_on_bengals_its_never_going_to_change
In the wake of the Cincinnati Bengals ranking last among all professional sports franchises by ESPN, it didn't come as a surprise to former Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason.

“Don’t you think we’d all be surprised if they weren’t ranked last?" Esiason told the Cincinnat Enquirer. “It’s never going to change. There is no expectation the team is going to win. There never has been. I can’t sugarcoat it."

So, what's the one constant for the Bengals over the years as they repeatedly struggle to compete on a consistent basis and nose-dived to 4-12 last season?
Owner Mike Brown(notes).

“You can have all the money in the world," Esiason said. "You can sock it away in a mattress. But the reason you’re in (the NFL) is because you’re competitive. You want to win. The family has never experienced that."

...But is he better than Kyle Orton...
Short Answer: "We don't know."

At one time, he was clearly better.

Of late, he hasn't been.

Question - Can he rebound to his former excellence the way Kurt Warner did? Or will he remain awful like Derek Anderson?

And there's also a key secondary question:

Does Palmer have a legitimate gripe? Or is he purely a malcontent who puts himself ahead of his team and who'd be like that as a Cardinal?

Both questions place a heavy burden on the shoulders of Cardinal scouts, talent-evaluators, coaching staff and their grapevine network.

Palmer sure does not qualify as garbage. I would trade all three of our current QB's for him today. He has shown the NL what he can do. None of our current QB's have yet to show much of anything.

I do not think our owners will pay his salary. Sorry to say.

Skelton handled his situation just fine, showed a lot.

It did show a lot. It showed he needs a lot of work. Completing less than 50% of his passes is not "fine." Neither is being one of two victims to the worst team in football last season (Carolina).

You must have missed the cowgirls game, and you know he didn't get no time to prepare and all that good jazz. :mulli:
Wa wa. Feel free to overcome adversity enough to complete more than half of your passes.

EDIT: 11 of 25 for 144 yards against the Cowboys?

:championship:
