That is all I will address after this last pre-season game. Since I do not know how many QB's the team will keep, (they have been saying only two), I will go with that for now.
I will say that after watching all the preseason games, my selection for #3 QB on this team would be Logan Thomas. I base that on several things. First, I believe that in the 4 pre-season games, Thomas played better than Sims in both games three and four. I feel that Sims was clearly better in game two, and that in game 1, the play between them was fairly close. To me, I believe that Thomas was clearly the one who performed best under pressure. He delivered the two minute drill in game three to post the winning score at the end of the game. Then again, he brought his unit from behind in the 2nd half of game 4 to score two touchdowns, (which included the beautifully played play action bomb to JJ Nelson). He was very accurate in both games three and four, and he also had a great command of the huddle and was apparently up to knowing all he needed to know of the play book, as well as those plays drawn up in the 'sand' as referred to by Coach Bruce Arians after the game.
In addition Thomas, (I feel), has measurables that even had the two played evenly all pre-season, gives Thomas the edge at having a better up-side by virtue of his height, weight, speed, and arm strength. He is much taller than Sims, and had fewer balls batted down during their competition. I believe it also gave him the edge in getting his reads done in progression because of his height advantage. I believe he throws a more catchable and more accurate long ball than Sims, as with his big arm, he does not have to force his throws nearly so much to gain the distance needed to hit Smoke and Fire on the run deep. His deep throws appear to be more under control as opposed to heaving it all out like Sims needs to do on deep throws. He has also shown that when he needs to run to get out of trouble, he is at least as quick and fast as Sims, and once again his height helps him to see the field better than Sims does once the two are forced to run. I believe that all these measurables that Thomas has over Sims, gives him a great up-side advantage over Sims in the long run, (even if the two were evenly matched by their stats). Yet clearly, Thomas has put up stats that I don't feel that Sims has matched during the pre-season games.
Since Thomas is practice squad eligible, I believe the team could, (and should), place Thomas there if they only keep two QBs on the active roster. If they decide to keep three QBs then I believe Thomas should be that #3 QB on the roster, and Sims should go to the practice squad. I believe that Thomas has done everything that this team has asked of him, (being the practice squad qb last year), although it meant he did not get any reps with our play book all year to speak of. Then handling the competition with Sims the way he did this year, and leading his unit to victories in the only two games that the Cardinals won in pre-season this year. He was drafted to be a three year project, and he appears to be well on his way to being a contender for a starting spot come next year, or stepping in this year if Stanton is not able to play due to injury.
