Where oh where will the hunt for the future signal caller of the Pittsburgh Steelers take the Steel City? Four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers—if he signs with Pittsburgh—and Mason Rudolph are both stop-gap quarterbacks for the next franchise Black and Gold QB. Both Rudolph and Rodgers lack the mobility the modern NFL currently demands, and even in the short term, a mobile QB would be ideal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are no strangers to athletic quarterbacks, but with the search for a long-term answer still ongoing, Alabama's Jalen Milroe presents a name worth circling in the 2025 NFL Draft. Known for his freakish athleticism and incredible dual-threat ability, Milroe’s raw skill set and physical traits have scouts and Steelers fans divided—but his potential upside is impossible to ignore.

  • Name: Jalen Milroe
  • College: Alabama
  • Height: 6'2"
  • Weight: 217 lbs
  • 40-yard dash: 4.37 seconds (pro day, unofficial)

Stats: (2021 stats are omitted as he only threw 7 pass attempts)2022 (8 games):Passing – 297 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs, 58.5 completion %Rushing – 31 rush attempts, 263 yards, 1 TD

2023 (13 games):Passing – 2,834 yards, 23 TDs, 6 INTs, 65.8 completion %Rushing – 161 rush attempts, 531 yards, 12 TDs

2024 (14 games):Passing – 2,844 yards, 16 TDs, 11 INTs, 64.3 completion %Rushing – 168 rush attempts, 726 yards, 20 TDs

Strengths:

Milroe's size and speed make him could make him dangerous dual-threat QB at the next-level. He has great accuracy and touch on his deep balls. Milroe is not only the fastest QB prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, he's one of the fastest period—as evident not only by his 4.37 second 40-yard-dash time, but his ability to translate it on the football field as well. His speed and deep-ball accuracy is scary-good on their own, but he also has one of the strongest arms in the draft class. The Crimson Tide QB is truly one of the most freakishly athletic in the class, but he's not without flaws.

Weaknesses:

Milroe's biggest issues come down to consistency and decision-making. His ability to read defenses and trust his eyes is extremely inconsistent. Despite boasting an impressive deep ball, his overall accuracy and decision-making leaves much to be desired for a starting-caliber NFL QB. One of the most consistent issues in his game is waiting until the receivers complete their routes to throw the football—and it is this lack of anticipatory throwing that has bitten him throughout his collegiate career. He’ll also need to tighten up his mechanics, including his ball carriage and timing when working through reads, if he wants to start at the next level.

How would he fit on the Steelers’ offense?

Believe it or not, despite Milroe's glaring red flags as a passer on short to intermediate throws, he would bring a whole new dimension to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. The Steel City attempted to adapt to the modern-day NFL in 2024 with not just one, but two mobile QBs—both of whom left for greener pastures. Even with his elite athleticism, whether sitting behind Aaron Rodgers or competing with Mason Rudolph for a starting job, Mileroe is obviously a project at the next level. However, if the Pittsburgh Steelers can draft him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the team could walk away with their own Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts—a dynamic, dual-threat QB that other teams slept on.
