I have seen plenty of Bartel and please believe me when I say he is not, and never will be, a good starting QB in the NFL.

When did you see plenty of Bartel? He's only played in one NFL game. Did he even play in the UFL games? I can't find any statistics.

I think I caught a few of his games at Marlboro State. He has a Cowboy's mentality, and a smoking spiral...kind of expensive if you ask me though.

The point of this thread was not to suggest the Cardinals should name Bartel the starting QB.

My point is in reaction to all the hype Kolb is receiving---and---sometimes players who receive no hype may possibly be just as good or even better if a coach were to have faith in him.

There are several starting QBs right now who had very little hype coming into the league: Romo, Hasselbeck, Fitzpatrick, Garrard, Cassell...and the ultimate of all: Tom Brady.

What inspired this thread is the thought of the Cardinals acquiescing to the Eagles' demands of a 1st and 3rd---or DRC and a conditional 3rd (2nd if Kolb makes Pro Bowl).

I would rather sign a free agent veteran and put trust in Skelton (who I like a lot) and Bartel---and keep the $80M Kolb demands...and keep DRC...and keep next year's 1st 2nd and 3rd draft picks...especially with a rich QB class coming out.

The whole deal boils down to this...if the Cards don't add a QB that they (& players) feel can lead this team for at least 5 years to success, Fitz isn't signing any extension!!! The pressure is on this franchise to acquire one past this season to retain #11's services...whether its the right or wrong to approach the QB situation. Losing Fitz could be the biggest mistake since the teams arrival in Az.

Here are his preseason stats:

2007 Cowboys
@MIN(game 4) 11/13 84.6% 81yds(6.2) 0TD 1INT 60.6 rating (1 fumble lost)

2008 Cowboys
@SD(game 1) 7/15 46.7% 64yds(4.3) 0TD 0INT 58.7 rating
@DEN(game 2) 7/14 50.0% 107yds(7.6) 0TD 1INT 45.8 rating
vs.MIN(game 4) 29/42 69.0% 233yds(5.5) 0TD 0INT 82.7 rating

2009 Browns
vs.DET(game 2) 0/1 0.0% 0yds(0.0) 0TD 0INT 39.6 rating
vs.TEN(game 3) 3/3 100% 40yds(13.3) 0TD 0INT 118.8 rating
@CHI(game 4) 12/14 85.7% 137yds(9.8) 0TD 0INT 107.4 rating

2010 Redskins
@NYJ(game 3) 3/5 60% 44yds(8.8) 1TD 0INT 128.3 rating
@ARZ(game 4) 12/14 85.7% 125yds(8.9) 1TD 0INT 127.7 rating

As far as his UFL Mountain Lions career, he spent most of it on the bench, backing up Culpepper. 3/3 for 29 yards is all I found.

Well he's done. That's the kind of preseason stats that get you replaced by Max Hall in Arizona. :D

I live in MD and saw him with the deadskins throughout camp and preseason last year, unimpressive at best imo.

So why was he unimpressive? Poor reads? Poor drop? Weak arm? Just curious.

Just out of curiosity, which part of his 15/19 78.0% 8.9 ypa 169 yards 2 TD 0 ints for a 128.0 QB rating in 2 games last pre-season did you find unimpressive?

I was wondering the same thing.

While he's obviously, not "the man of the hour", I was sufficently impressed to want to see more of him as a Cardinal.

looks like the best stats are all in pre season game 4's....game 4 is when most teams rest their starters so he was likely passing against a defense filled with bubble players......well,...unless he started those games?

It's also worth saying that I went to many a day of their TC being as though I was in the aread for work. He just didn't look like an NFL quarterback IMO. Slow, tentative and average arm at best. Camp fodder.

You do remember Leinart torching GB for 360+ and 3 TD's in the preseason a few years ago right? What did that get him again??

I remember going to Greeley Colorado to watch the Cards in a joint Camp with the Broncos. Glyn Milburn looked all pro. Spent 9 years in the NFL but never really made much of an impact.

Steve Buerelien looked way too small to be an NFL QB. But he threw for 4,400 yards and 36 TDs one season.

Eric Swann was the most impressive football player I've ever seen. It was hard to believe a guy that big could be that quick.

You just never know.
