If any of you have not seen the QB from Auburn you are missing out on what looks like one of the best QBs I have ever seen coming out of college. He is 6'6" 250 lbs of muscle. He runs like a shifty RB and can throw the ball a mile. He is a Junior College transfer and I think leads the SEC in yards gained on the ground. He was with Florida but when Tebow decided to come back he transferred to a Junior College. Arkansas could not tackle him nor could the very strong defense of LSU. I think he will be the undisputed favorite to win the Heisman. In the Auburn Magazine listing the players for this year he got only two lines. This guy came out of nowhere. I have never seen a QB who could run like him. Not Vick or anyone else. He can run around you or though you and is extremely hard to bring down due to his size and strength. Very accurate on the move. He is already a cult hero at Auburn who is 7-0. I think the Auburn - Alabama game will be televised so if you can take a look at this guy. He is pro ready today and no one ever heard of him last year in Junior College. If he is not the #1 pick next year then someone will trade up to get him at #1. He is going to pass Tebow in running perhaps next week and he is only midway through his junior year. He may end up as the all time ground gainer in the SEC for a QB. I would trade our first 1-4 picks for this guy.

I've haven't seen Auburn play. However just from reading your description I picture Jamarcus Russell.

He has already won player of the week 4 times this season and ran for over 200 yards last week aside from his passing ability. This guy is way beyond Jamarcus Russell.

"Auburn QB Cam Newton jumps ahead in Heisman race

What can't Cam Newton do?
Apparently, not much. Newton rushed 28 times for 217 yards and two touchdowns in Auburn's 24-17 victory over LSU Saturday night to remain the only unbeaten team in the Southeastern Conference.
His most spectacular moves — could they be the ones that win him the Heisman Trophy? — came on his 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
"It was just another great run that Cameron does a lot on his own," Auburn coach Gene Chizik told reporters after the game.

But there was more.
After the game, Newton sprinted to the end zone to join with Auburn fans and then shortly after, he jumped the fence that separates the benches from the hedges at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
"I didn't see that (jump) exactly, but I'm sure that was impressive as well," Chizik told Alabama Live. "He's got a good vertical, I know that."
Newton set the SEC single-season record with 1,077 rushing yards for a quarterback.
But it was his 49-yard touchdown run that was most breathtaking.
"It's just a play that's in my job description to make," Newton told reporters.

I posted a thread on Cam Newton a couple days ago, entitled.. OT, Possible future investment....or something like that.
Cam Newton is a beast with a cannon of an arm, very electric.

I'm not impressed with him throwing the ball.

I don't get caught up in running QB's who lack the passing skills that translates to the NFL game.

IMO Robert Griffin from Baylor is a much better prospect today & in future years.

This guy will likely enter the draft, no actual knowledge of that just rumors I've heard.

He's a much better pro prospect than he is a college QB type, 6'5" tall, mobile and a cannon for an arm.

He was hurt pretty bad his Freshman year but still played, and he's got much less to work with WR wise now.

Still his stats are very impressive.

Actually reminds of Daunte Culpepper when he first joined the NFL with the Vikings. But I'm leery of running qbs. Would like to see more of his throwing capabilities and see if he has any smarts on running a pro style offense.

No he's a runner Russell can't run. The question on Newton is will he be an NFL level passer because the NFL doesn't love running Qb's. He's similar to Vince Young who's had his ups and downs. But he's an amazing college player.

He's a stay away for me in the first 45 picks because there's no way I'm investing first-round money in a guy who's only started one season at any level. He still passes more than he runs.

At least Vince Young was a two-year starter. You just don't know enough about a guy when he's only been the starter for a handful of games. Even Michael Vick had 161 passing attempts against 104 rushes his second year as a starter.

Newton's had 138 passing attempts and 157 rushes this season. Someone in the NFL would fall deeply in love with him (probably me), but you win in the NFL passing.

Are there any college QBs you can think about starting right away? (after we draft them)

The two QBs that will be available (since Andrew Luck is going 1st overall) that I'd like to see us take a look at is Ryan Mallett of Arkansas and Ben Chappell from Indiana. Mallett is the better prospect but I think Chappell has the chance to be a good one.

I'd say either Mallett or Locker could possibly start immediately. However both have major question marks coming in.

Mallett- Highly inaccurate and questionable decision making skills and known for being more in to the party than football. Sounds like a mix of DA and Leinart (the latter)..

Locker- Inconsistent, tends to run when he should pass, and gets rocked from his rythm, which will lead to his performance spiraling in a hurry. Seems to be a "when he's on, he's ON, when he's off, he's OFF" type.

Newton is an athletic freak, but I don't quite know what to make of him as a quarterback.

Luck is really the only one I'd be completely confident going in to game 1 with as a starter.

Christian Ponder, Florida State
Pat Devlin, Delaware

That's about it. You have a list of about 12 free agents who would be better than the two bums we have.

McNabb, Moore, Hasselback, Alex Smith (yes, he's better than our two guys), Trent Edwards, Shaun Hill (I'd kill to have Shaun Hill on our roster right now), Tyler Thigpen, Tavaris Jackson, Kellen Clemens, Michael Vick, Kerry Collins.

I'd actually like Devlin as a long term option.

Slim pickens in the free agent market. Mcnabb would be the only one that would have my attention. Unless we move up in the draft, I don't see a QBOF F F F.

Christian Ponder is not very good. No way Devlin is ready coming from FCS.

Devlin worked 3 years at Penn State before transferring. Joe Flacco did pretty well as a rookie coming out of Delaware (although he started 2 years there)--put up a QB rating of 80.3 as a rook.

I don't think that either guy is going to be very good--or good right away. But I think that both could be better than Max Hall (even with a year in the system) or Derek Anderson.

He can't throw. He and Terrelle Pryor are the same player.

Stay away from Chappell. After getting pounded relentlessly, one Illini defender responded that Ben didnt want any part of being tossed around and threw the ball away at the first sign of a rush.

I have been watching Newton all season, and I think he can be successful at the next level. He will of course need some development, but he can make all the throws, his accuracy is decent overall, and he throws well on the run. Not to mention, at 6 foot 6 inches tall, he can see the field better than anyone we have had in a while.
