Hi guys, im pretty new to this forum, and sorry is this question seems stupid but:

I been watchin the suns and have become a huge fan over the last few years. I was just wonderin if some one could tell me what ever happened to Quentin Richardson.

All i know aobut him was that he was traded to NY and that he participated and won the 3-point shoot out (at the Allstar weekend) as a phoenix player. Cept for that i know nothing....

So if you could tell me, why was he traded/fired/whatever? and what he was like with fitting in with the team....

Thanks Guys

He fit in just fine with the team. However, come playoff time his shooting went south and dissappeared. The Suns were trying to get bigger as graham stated. It was just time for him to go.

The team was desperate to unload Penny's contract and I think they had to give up another piece for the Knicks to take the deal. So it was just time in a few ways for QR to go.

What?? Penny's contract went to the Knicks in the Marbury deal..

Amare requested that the Suns go after Kurt Thomas. SteelDog is right, Q was a scapegoat for a lot of people for the Suns losing in the playoffs. The Suns traded their frist round pick - via Chicago - (wound up being Nate Robinson) and Q to get Kurt.

lol. Your right. Got my trades crossed. I have had a long day. I fixed my post. Thanks.

I too thought Q was a scapegoat. I think they didn't want his contract and needed a big man so it was easy to justify parting with him..right or wrong.

I agree that Richardson was a scapegoat. Actually his numbers in the playoffs were not much different from what he'd done in the regular season.

Even so, it was a very good trade for the Suns. Thomas, when healthy, provides the Suns with exactly what they need. From a practical standpoint, Richardson was replaced by Bell, who is a better fit and less expensive.

Q was not a great defender and had some horrible games in the playoffs where his offense was invisible. He was probably the main reason we lost to San Antonio in the WCF 2 yrs ago (Joe Johnson's broken eye socket and Marion having a bad series didn't help either). He was undersized to play the SF spot so we traded him for KT so that we could move Marion to his natural SF position & Amare to his natural PF position with KT at C. It didn't work out as planned with Amare missing the whole season, but the reasoning was pretty sound at the time and it was a good trade for the Suns overall.

Kidd more or less was shipped out for beating his wife.

Marbury was traded to shed salary and get his and Penny Hardaway's contracts off the books. Ultimately, this trade led to the signing of Steve Nash.

Realistically, most teams would be prepared to live with just about any type of player (wife beater, bloated contract, gun toter etc.) so long as they are good. Kidd's fatal flaw was that he couldn't shoot - it killed us in the crunch, while Marbury was an anti-nash; he made players around him worse.

The fact that Kidd beat his wife (she probably deserved it from the sounds of things ;-) ) and that Marbury had a ridiculous contract, gave the club too many reasons (i.e. more than one) not to trade them...

Quentin is probably best as a big guard in a mid-tempo offense where he can post up a smaller guard in the half court and shoot threes in transition. He was just never quite the sharpshooter or a perimeter defender to do anything except shoot a lot of 3s for the Suns.

The Suns signed him to a fairly large contract for a player with a bad back. The Suns probably unloaded him as much out of fear he would be injured as anything else. It was bad enough that teams cannot get hazard insurance for Richardson's salary. If not for the back problem, the Suns might not have had to give up a pick to unload him for Kurt Thomas.
