Here is a question for some of you that seem to have untold time to research these things.

With all the talk of Boldin potentially holding out, something I don't think he is inclined to do, how would Dennis Green react?

During Dennis' time in Minni, did any player hold out for a better contract?

Dennis doesn't seem to me to be the kind of coach that will tollerate a holdout. I think it would only get the player a first-class ticket out of town. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Depends on the player IMO. If its a franchise type player(which Boldin is) I think Green deals with it since he really has no control over contracts. He realizes its a business and would like the player here. JMHO.

Green had a similar situation in Minnesota with an OL Todd Steussie, somewhat similar. Steussie had a big contract and Green wanted him to take a paycut. There were all sorts of rumors that he was not going to report, that Green was trying to trade him etc. He ultimately agreed to take the paycut, and then Green cut him.

He's not a forgiving man if Rosenhaus and Boldin DID call his bluff, they'd find out he doesn't bluff. Won't be Green's decision though and from the sound of it Quan still wants to be here so it hopefully won't come up.

Todd Steussie isnt exactly a franchise type player. I dont see him pulling that with Quan.

First off I would bet a lot of money (if I had any) that Quan will not be part of any kind of hold out. He just isn't built that way. Also could have a link to 560 radio.

Thanks

he was a Pro Bowler and multiple times when Green cut him. Green turned out to be right, Steussie was on the downside of his career and I don't think he's made the Pro Bowl since.

The difference was he had a big deal Green wanted cut, Quan has a small deal he wants raised.

That may be true. But There a difference between a Pro-Bowler and a player that has franchise ability like Quan. Steussie being a G just doesnt have the same impact IMO.

I don't have time to research it, but I seem to remember Robert Smith holding out at least once. Althought I can't remember if he had a contract or not, he might have been a franchise tag guy. Didn't seem to be too many repercussions from that.

(Yes, I realize since I can't put any actual dates or circumstances to this,
it doesn't add much value...just throwing it out there.)

I googled it and couldn't find it but doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Smith retired early of course but he played 8 years so it's likely he did have more than one contract and may have held out.

I picked up his book a few weeks back a flipped through a few pages. I thought I remembered him claiming he held out for a while. But maybe it didn't happen. He wouldn't be the first person to write an autobiography with inaccurate memories. Or it wouldn't be the first time that I couldn't remember exactly what I read when wandering through a Borders a few weeks ago.

If he wrote it in a book I'd believe it, one of the smarter guys to ever play in the NFL.

Just a guess but I doubt DG would be starting him very much if he decided to end his holdout. Holding out would more than likely decrease his value to other teams as they do not need trouble so Boldin would be foolish to do that. He would be better off playing the best he can and enhancing his value on the field. This will not happen holding out.

Boldin ain't no franchise player - there's only two WRs that are - Moss and Owens - otherwise to think any WR is a franchise player smells of homerism.
