  • Peterson was in on what felt like over 30 offensive reps today
  • Mendenhall easily the best back
  • Offense opening some running lanes for plays of 5 plus yards
  • Peterson and Mathieu were working on their joint punt return. The one I saw had Peterson catch and Mathieu running behind getting the pitch

This Peterson on offense thing is just seemingly getting bigger. Lots of screens, reverses, deep routes by Peterson. I would estimate he was on 25% of the offensive plays. They even had him taking reps on defense with the third team to make up for the lost reps with the ones.

No one seems to be concerned about overworking Peterson and the injury risk. I just hope that someone in charge is monitoring the number of snaps so that we don't let over-exuberance result in an unnecessary injury to a key player..

Thanks for the update.

A bit of a concern that PP has to get caught up on D because he is on O so much.

Very excited to see if they can make HB & PP a duel PR threat.

No one who matters seems concerned. I'm concerned though. I think everyone should just focus on him being the best corner ever. That being said Bo Jackson and Deion played two sports, maybe this is the new incarnation of the super-athlete, like back in the old days when dudes played both sides.

I wasn't concerned until today. I mean he played a lot of offense! He needs his reps at cornerback no matter how good he is. I'm sure they wouldn't do it thought unless they thought there would be no drop off with his defensive play. Can't imagine him playing any snaps in preseason as a WR, but I bet when the season starts it's going to surprise many how much he is out there.

I don't think they are concerned yet because I don't think he is being tackled.

I thought someone said that PP was to be mostly man to man anyways, so the missed reps weren't going to be too big an issue. Also, I remember one DB that doubled as a WR saying that playing WR improved his defense as he understood the routes much better...hopefully there is truth to this and it pays off for PP

I have a feeling they keep one more corner than normal this season just to give PP some rest here and there since he appears to be a larger part of the offense.

Deion rules for PP!

forgot to mention that Rashad Johnson got hurt, was limping pretty bad, and didn't see him return to the field.

Highlight of today's practice:

Fitz working with DC Jefferson on his catching skills for an hour or so after practice ended, and everyone else had hit the showers.

Looks like it was his ankle and they were taping up right here.

My main takeaway from today and every other practice I've been to is this. I just cant say how much different BA's coaching style is than the Whiz.

Whiz walked around every training camp practice and basically observed. Never saw him do anything really.

In contrast, BA is constantly in the middle of the group, teaching, pointing, coaching, just bringing the message home.

We will see how much it translates into wins and losses, but if I were a player, I would much rather have a coach who gets in the mix and shows enthusiasm for teaching, over one who walks around like an executive.

He actually looked like a NFL safety in the Packer game but it was still only pre-season.

Arians was on record as saying Peterson would be a top 5 WR if he wanted to be so I see them using him a ton on offense. Also it was Troy brown who said being a WR made him a better DB.

Best corner ever? He needs to prove he can contain Crabtree first. Peterson was abused in a number of games last year by too many players, he is not close to being the best at his position today, yet alone ever, or be mentioned in that group.

His best skill is running with the football, he should have been rb or posession reciever, he will never be an elite cb because of his coverage technique.

He is a playmaker with football in his hands, and Arians knows that, his best position is not CB. I would use him as a slot WR or RB.

Db stats from last season indicate that you are talking about someone other than PP21.

Pro Bowl voting would probably disagree with you.

I think you're overstating your case just a little bit. Yes, Peterson struggled against smaller, quicker cornerbacks like Crabtree and Percy Harvin, but he more or less eliminated the best WR in the game in Calvin Johnson, too. You don't do that as a part-time player or an athlete who can't nail down his technique.

Corner is a difficult position to hammer down in the NFL. Even Revis Island took a couple of seasons to build. Peterson is well on his way to that level, he just has to work on containing the littler guys.

lol, id rather have him at cb than a WR. Not many people can cover like PP21 can.

The good news is we have some good depth at CB, and punt returner. It will be fun to see what PP21 can do on the other side of the ball.
