Browns agreed to terms on a two-year deal with OLB Quentin Groves, formerly of the Cardinals.
Groves and new Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton spent last season together in Arizona, where Horton held the same position. Groves was a useful reserve, compiling 46 tackles and four sacks despite starting just seven times. He figures to push Jabaal Sheard and Chris Gocong for snaps opposite Paul Kruger in Cleveland.

surprised we let him walk
That's the MO for the Cards FO: Go visit a team and give us a chance to match. Sheesh...the team is bleeding depth. Crap never changes...this is such a minor league franchise...

I dont believe that was the plan. The plan was to let him walk and let other players get his snaps.

This sucks. He could have started for us this year. We now have zero depth. Now do we take Jarvis Jones or Eric Fisher with our first pick.

No way. Groves is a backup player who provides depth. He is not a starter.

Nice move by the Browns. He didn't break the bank and can come in and help install Hortons defense.

Not according to Darren Urban. He'd written repeatedly that the Cards were interested in bringing Groves back.

When do Keim's believers start to doubt that there is a plan in place here?

Yes, I am curious about this as well.

You have to give Keim time, he was mentored by one of the best .

Yeah, things aren't adding up here. At that price, he must have just not wanted to play in Arizona anymore.

Who would at this point? How do you market your team to your own FAs and other teams FAs in our current situation other than with money we don't have? Free agency is about filling holes, not creating holes. I'm not saying you need to sign big name guys, but you do need to put yourself in the best position come draft day to pick the best players and not have to draft players to fill holes in your starting lineup.

A perfect example is William Gay and Adrian Wilson. You may want to move on from these two guys, but it is better to draft a CB or SS high and then hope they beat out Gay and Wilson rather than cut these players and have to draft their replacements and count on those players to pan out immediately.

Exactly. You add players to compete or outright replace someone THEN release players.

With Wells, if we signed Mendenhall first, then it would make more sense. Or two RB's really since we're going to be losing LSH.

Not every move has to be made with training camp in mind, but overall you want to cut some players AFTER you signed others, and cut other players sometime during training camp.

Overall we're doing the cutting first, and there simply is no need to do that. It only takes 5 minutes to cut a guy, and with the way the particulars work, we have enough room to sign guys, we just potentially wouldn't have enough room to be 'officially' under the cap when certain events happen.

Now maybe they have better info about stuff. If they basically sign all the guys rumored then it probably nets out fairly decent, but as of now we haven't signed any of these guys, but the guys we cut ARE cut and gone.

The Horton influence cost us this one in my opinion. Groves was just ok last year but at that price a real bargain.
