Qwest or Cox, that is the question...

Both internet and TV...

So, I'm moving into a new house and will likely need to get service from one of these two. I've only had first hand experience with both in apartment complexes that were pre-wired.

Both had their issues and outages now and then, but I do like the dedicated line w/ DSL even though cable is faster.

The service for Qwest is different in apartments than homes. This complex offers the Choice TV and is actually being discontinued this month for DirectTV.

The subdivision is newer, built in 2005, so the infrastructure should be pretty good. I'm not going HD right away, but plan to w/in a year or less. If FIOS was available it would be a no brainer, but it's not.

So, you home owners, what are your unbiased thoughts on both?

TIA

Well I have cox now which is great for like online play with 360 no lag at all and fast download speeds, I also had quest internet at my parents before I moved out the one thing I liked about quest better than cox is that you had a dynamic ip address so you could just restart the modem and bam new ip address which was great for things like rapidshare etc. If you want a dynamic ip go with quest if not than go with Cox.

To tell you the truth if quest was avliable where i'm at I would go with quest just cause of dynamic but I like downloading a lot of files off rapidshare so that is just me. You can't go wrong with eaither one. My damn condo complex doesn't allow direct tv which sucks because now I have to go to my parents to watch nfl sunday ticket lmao. :( But I hope your happy in which ever one u choose

TV = Direct TV

Internet = Cox

Both are clearly better value than the bundled packages from either vendor

Qwest IP's mostly don't change, mine didn't for a couple of years even with a reboot

I am really happy you made this thread - I was thinking of making a similar thread myself, as I'm closing on my first house May 22. I've only used qwest while renting and mentioned in another thread, I didn't have too many problems. I do keep hearing that Cox interenet is better.

I probably wont get TV right away (really trying to cut corners), so I'm more concerned with internet.

We cannot get Qwest in our area, so it was Cox by default (for internet).

We've always had satellite TV (currently DirectTV) so can't speak for Cox cable tv.

Well, I just checked Qwest's site and they don't have internet service in our area either.. So I guess we have to default to Cox as well.

Cox is also Dynamic, and probably functions the same way as Qwest. If you leave your modem unplugged long enough, you'll end up with a new IP address when you plug it back in.
