Jackson said he went to Cable at halftime last week with the Raiders trailing 7-3, suggesting the switch at quarterback. Cable said the staff had talked earlier in the week about needing better quarterback play. He went ahead with it and Gradkowski rallied Oakland to the win.
So does this mean that they had discussed putting Gradkowski in earlier in the week?
Russ, I know you are very informed on the teams in the Bay area so did you hear/read something else that leads to your point about the potential coaching controversy?
Yes, the local papers and media are full of stories today about how it seemed very self serving of Jackson to publicly say it was his idea to change QB's. They're not saying he's lying, they're saying he said it because he didn't want Cable to "get the credit" for it. Many people think Davis is tiring of Cable and Jackson is seen as the heir apparent, so they think Jackson made that comment specifically to toot his own horn as it were.
Let's be honest, if you're the head coach for Al Davis it's a matter of when, not if you're going to be fired.
the QB situation is interesting because IIRC Campbell only has a 1 year deal
after this year, that is Oakland gave him one more year off his existing contract. So they only have one year to "Eat" if they decide Gradkowski is the guy. From the sound of it, Hue Jackson seems to prefer Gradkowski.
So there seems to be some connection between the QB controversy, and the coaching controversy.
If Campbell is the guy it's "good" for Cable, if he's not, it's bad for Cable.
Cardinals win, of course. Defense, call me crazy, might shut out the Raiders.
10-3 we win in one of the most boring card game in history, anderson throws 2 picks early hall comes in and leds the cards to a close victory one can dream right.
The last time I looked Vegas had the Cards winning by 4 1/2. Based on that I predict the Cards 28 1/2 Raiders 24.
As much as the Cards have been bad mouthed this week I am surprised to see most of us picking the Cards to win. How can that be? Of course the Raiders are changing QB's only 2 games into the season. We got to slow down my man Darren McFadden. He ran for over 150 yds last week. We sure do not want him getting the ball in open space.
Every year when the schedule comes out I go through it and try to make solid decisions regarding how I think our year will go. However, when it comes time to actually pick each individual game my heart just won't let my head get involved. I can't pick against my team, I just can't do it. I expected us to start out 1-4 or 2-3 but I'll still pick us to win each of the 5 games.
Steve
Cards win 2 - 0. We win the coin toss and go 3 and out in the OT but our kicker pins them deep and Calais Campbell sacks the QB in the end zone. Let the celebration begin.
Steve
Cards 15 Raiders 14
Feely proves he's no Rackers with 51 yarder to win as time expires his 5th FG of the game. All of them coming after Oakland turnovers as Cards can generate no offense. Oakland racks up 400 yards of offense but turnovers cost them big time.
Cards get last shot on Campbell fumble recovery, run Hightower 3 times for 3 yards and kick the game winner.
If that had happened in 1994 Buddy Ryan would have been the happiest man on Earth.
LOL, pass it to the left hand side.
