It was in a nice story on Asomugha who I still say the Cards should throw barrels of cash at if he hits the UFA market this offseason.

In order to sign Asomugha, we'd probably have to let Dansby and Warner walk.

I would add that they must be drunk and blind-folded b/c no one is this bad at darts.

I don't want him either; I didn't start the thread with that in mind. I was in favor of signing him in the off-season, but for a midseason is too much of a chemistry adjustment.

I actually think he'll eventually get his act together in the NFL, but Oakland was probably the worst place he could have gone to grow up.

I think you'll see a team like the Patriots (who desperately need help in the secondary) or the Steeler make him an offer. If he accepts, I think he'll grow up pretty fast and be a solid to very good NFL corner.

But, the Cardinals don't have that kind of lockerroom, yet. The Cardinals seem to "fragile" right now to throw someone like Hall into the mix.

DeAngelo Hall is not a bum. While he can get embarrassingly torched, he's been a solid corner with questions about his immaturity. The awkward thing is that the light was actually beginning to turn on for him in Oakland's wack scheme before him getting waived. That whole team needs serious help.

If I were Graves, this offseason I'd have trade agreed upon in principal with some team for Boldin with the understanding that it's contingent upon getting Asomugha on the team. Once we get him, then the trade agreement gets signed. If we can't land him, then we work on keeping Boldin.

It's just my humble opinion, but I think the Cards would be better served with a the best CB in the league and the best WR in the league than with the two of the best WRs.

I respectfully disagree. I think with NFL rules setup as they are a WR is of greater use to the team than a corner.

Objectively I think we can agree that Boldin and Asomugha have roughly the same value for their positions.

Boldin's value to the Cardinals is also dependent on many factors. If the team keeps Warner, it dedicates itself to the wide-open passing attack we're seeing now, which means the team needs the best WR's it can get. If we pay Warner, we should pay Boldin.

If Warner decided to move on, then we'll see an offense more-akin to what Whisenhunt started with, ala Pittsburg's run-based style, in which case one electrifying WR should be plenty with a competent supporting cast.

The bigger concern is continuing to build on the pass-rush. I'd rather pay big money to a rusher than a CB, because a great pass rush makes like easier for the secondary.
The reverse is true too, but not to the value of the first.

On defense I'd pay highest in this order: DE, SLB, MLB, NT/DT, S, WLB, CB.
Not because a good CB isn't as important, but because the great ones cost too much and are hamstrung by too many NFL rules.

Save for the fact that we have Fitz, I'd agree with you. But I'd rather go into Sundays with

Fitz, Breaston, Doucet on O and Asomugha, DRC and Hood on D
than
Fitz, Boldin, Breaston on O and DRC, Hood and Green on D.

Obviously, I love the way the offense is playing, but I also could see that offense only slightly dropping off if Boldin isn't there, whereas I see a huge improvement on D if Asomughais added to almost literally shut down one side of the field.

I'm with Pariah, right now replacement value says we can replace Anquan easier than we can get another CB if we can't get Awesomewa.

Not saying Anquan isn't a great player he is, just that Breaston has shown this year he can play when Anquan was out, we have nobody on our roster that can do what Asomugha can, unless DRC improves leaps and bounds by then.

...and please don' construe my comments to mean I don't like Boldin or don't want im on the team. I do, but I also think losing him isn't a deathblow. The offense will still hum and we can get better elsewhere.

If we manage to keep him, great. It's just a different way to go about remaining a good team.

Agreed, it would be great if we can keep him but if he really does want to move on as Drew and he said, he can help us improve at other positions by freeing up caproom and providing trade value.

Forget about Asomugha and bring in Chris Gamble. Reality is we're not going to bring in any starting DB because DRC and Hood will be th starters. We'll sign a depth guy(maybe re-up Green) and draft a DB next year.

I love Boldin too and think he's a fantastic leader but I also think paying close to 20 million a season for 2 WR is too much. If we sign Warner to a 2 year deal that's going to be another 8 to 10 mil. We need to spend more on D because, as we all know, defense wins championships.

I like the idea of DRC moving into the starting role. That way we can see how Green does at nickel. If he proves to be a solid nickel back I wouldn't mind resigning him. He definitely doesn't cut it at corner.

Asomugha isn't too happy about Hall being cut, I doubt he signs with Oakland again, unless they offer truckloads more $$ than anyone else.

Yeah they had those stats in the paper this morning. They also said in an earlier report that Asomugha has had 9 passes thrown to his side all season and the total yards allowed on those 9 passes is less than Hall has allowed in ANY one game this season. In other words for every game Hall played, he allowed more passing yards than Asomugha has for the entire sesaon.

The paper said Asomugha figures to get around 30 million in guaranteed money, that seems insane but we're talking about arguably the best in the game at his position, in his prime, he's only 27 will be 28 in July.

Probably a pipe dream but if I knew I was going to have the caproom I'd sure make an offer to him he's a very bright kid, he's from California so he's a West Coast guy and Arizona might be close enough. Last thing you want is for him to end up a 49er or Seahawk.
