USC fans are snickering a bit.Apparently there's been a firelanekiffin.com website for quite a while run by a USC fan who's not alone in thinking Kiffin needed to go.

He's considered to have been a great recruiter so USC fans think it could hurt recruiting, but they're all pretty surprised he was deemed HC worthy.

Russ, did you interview twice with Al Davis?

Good for that guy. I've heard Al Davis' interviews are brutal and very, very technical. Gruden's episode of NFLN's "In Their Own Words" details this.

He's going to make 2 million a year so I guess we shouldn't feel too sorry for him but it's weird. Kawakami says the rumor is Norv Turner advised Sarkisian to reject the job.

It's hard to believe that a kid with so little experience is going to come in
and be able to succeed given the same problems all the other recent coaches couldn't overcome.

I guess as long as he doesn't get blacklisted over this it's a good deal. only so many NFL HC jobs so you can't fault Kiffin for wanting one so badly he took the Raiders job.

Just seems pretty unlikely he'll succeed but neither was anybody else going to right away.

Slanidrac has the correct call: They hired a 31-year-old college assistant because who in the hell else would take that job?

It's absolutely pathetic what has happened to that franchise. "Laughingstock" doesn't even begin to say it. Trotting out Andrew Walter, Justin Fargas, and having Randy Moss catch 40 passes for a coach (Shell) who was retired for a decade.....and yet somehow 2007 may be even worse.

And yet they still beat us, and our coach's team. Somehow.

The Raiders will fire him after this year and eat the last four years of that deal. They then will either go to a 21 year old kid or just give the job to Moss or TO. If all of them reject Al they then will start pulling fans out of the black hole and interviewing them for the job

Wow, his interview with the media is pure ass. "We will play happy. We will play hard." "We will utilize our big play guys. We will get them the football."

He. Needs. Public. Speaking. Class. Because. He. Talks. Choppy. And. Robotic.

I noticed this, too. It was a little unsettling.

He was on the radio when he was rumored to be getting the ASU job and he sounded pretty normal. Maybe just the act of associating yourself with the Raiders turns you into a moron. :D

What I came away with was that he is in WAAAAAY over his head, and he knows it.

Plus, I've never heard of playing happy football. That's just...weird.

USC fans blame him for not winning the last 2 NC's. Not saying they're right but it's an intriguing hire.

Local papers said he looked almost afraid of Al Davis at the presser.

I wish the guy luck, it's awfully hard to work for Al Davis.

One of the local reporters Ann Killion tried to ask Kiffin a question about rotating coaches in recent years and she said Davis got outright mad at her. First blasted her for having her facts wrong(she was actually right on number of coaches in X years) and then cut her off as she was trying to make a point. Kiffin apparently just stood there waiting for Davis to give him the ok to answer the question, he never did, so Kiffin never answered it.

Al Davis made him get a lobotomy as a condition of employment. In fact the offical title is "Head Coach and Zombie-Puppet"

The happy stuff was directed at Moss and porter for sure. I think he was trying to head off questions like "are Moss and porter going to be traded" by saying we're going to be a happier team this year.

I gotta say I hope they dump Moss, I'm so sick of him saying they should trade me if they won't use me correctly etc. He had a crappy year in large part because he gave no effort. When he put out any effort at all, he was still very good, just ask Antrell Rolle.

i am agreeing with all the experts. he will be fine in time. i don't expect him to be like john madden. because i don't think there is a coach that did what madden has done. never had a losing season. i don't believe he going to win this season either. they definitly need a qb and another wr. to add to the list some offensive linemen and a running back. jordan has been a bust there. then again everybody on the offensive side has been a bust the past few season. i believe the raidiers shouldd try to trade for daunte cullpepper. maybe moss and culpepper can resurect their careers. then they need to sign micheal turner for there running back. find some offensive lineman to help protect there qb and open some holes.

Most draft analysis feel that JaMarcus Russell is a Culpepper clone. Draft him with the first pick and develop him. Keep Moss and throw him the ball.
