Is everything
This was truly a difficult loss to take. Everything went right for SF down the stretch - including the OT coin toss. And what was the deal with Rackers OT kickoff? Unbelievable. In all my years following the Cards, this was probably the most dissapointing loss I can recall. What are the ramifications of a loss like this?

1) A 1-4 start puts any thought of the playoffs to bed. As usual, we are playing for next year in mid-Oct.
2) For some reason the excellent effort the team showed in the first 4 games seems meaningless. At some point you have to start winning games.
3) We are now playing to get out of the cellar in the NFC West.
4) We lost a chance to gain some respect around the league. I fear free agents will continue to be scared off after a complete meltdown like this.
5) The odds of getting a prime time night game next year are fading faster than Paris Hilton's reputation.
6) Losing to a crappy team who is devastated by injuries can only mean one thing - we are just as crappy.

A lot can still happen this year. Good and ill. On Oct. 24th, I'll foolishly believe we can beat Seattle and still have a positive year.

You have to be nuts to stick with this team. I don't deny it. Being a Cardinals fan is like having Herpes. It was fun catching it, but now you can't get rid of it and it breaks out at the worst possible times.

It's possible that this loss, as devastating as it appears to be, might make the team stronger, especially as it uses the bye week to prepare for the remaining 11 games. If this loss makes the team all the more hungry and focussed, it may be a blessing in disguise.

I must say this loss has been especially hard to shake..I've had this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach all day...It really is hard not to think "Same Old Cardinals" after yesterdays game...because only the Cardinals could have lost that game...still I will try to stay optimistic and hope for a decent season(6 or more wins and a strong showing in the 2nd half of the season)..but right now it's hard...I really hope the players feel the same way most of us feel or worse...

The Ugly: Taunting their fans when we were up in the fourth quarter. I don't ever want to see that from the Cards again.

The Bad: Blowing the lead and losing to a injury riddled team that didn't need or want any excuses for losing, and went out an won instead.

The Good: Think that'll happen again this season? I don't. It better not. I can't take another one of those.

The best we can do now ... is 12-4.

Yup, the season's over.
I hear your sarcasm and raise you this thought:

We were a shoe-in for the playoffs in 2002 when we started 4-2 (and ended up 5-11). It will be just as possible to win 9 in a row as it would be to self destruct like we did that year.

In fact, wasn't that the year we lost to the Chiefs 84-13? By halftime?

I noticed Scott Player jawing with Arnaz Battle in the end zone after his 71 yard punt return for a TD. I wonder what he said to him. Punters should not be allowed to talk smack.

So sad, but so true. I've been following the Cards since the day I moved here back in '91. There have been some real "bad" losses, but yesterday's was...well the absolute worst. :(

All the positives the team accomplisehed in the first 3 and 3/4 quaters were erased in just 4 plus minutes.

It's evident that no one, and I mean NO ONE wants to lose to the lowly Cardinals. It ruins teams seasons and means you must really suck if you do. San Fran was NOT going to let it happen. You saw what happened to New Orleans. They fought on the plane ride home and promptly lost again this past Sunday. New Orleans will implode.

How can the Cards ever lose the bad team reputation? Everyone from the dawn of time counts on beating the Cards when gazing upon their schedules. Even the bad teams know they can win. It's a given.

Just as we were about to turn a corner, and have teams re-thinking how they were going to play us, and start shredding that loser organization image...we take 4 steps backwards. Par for the course I suppose.

What could have been positives:
1. How much confidence was Josh gonna have after this win? Three td passes! Are you kidding...he was finding himself that game. Woulda been (and still can be) a great momentum builder for the rest of the season.

2. The defense held true to form until late in the 4th quarter! Awesome again...until someone got the bright idea of going into a "prevent" wtf!

3. Instead of field goals, we were getting td's!

4. Decent running. Emmitt did get a rushing td. Again more mometum and confidence builder for the whole team.

BUT NOOOOOOOO.................
Coulda, shoulda, woulda! Argghhhh!!!! What could have been!

I'll foolishly believe, too. This could be the game where we aren't supposed to win but somehow do. This past Sunday we got the game out of our system we were supposed to win but did not. One day we'll get to the point where we'll beat the teams we're supposed to and win a few of the ones we're not expected to win--like against the Seahawks!

Seattle beat us soundly last year and we need payback. Now we missed our chance at payback at San Fran but we'll have our chance against the Seahawks two Sundays from now. I have one hope and goal for then: to simply crush them. We've got more reason to now after Sundays loss. We must make Seattle pay for that loss. Somebodys gotta pay, might as well be them!

You know, we could have beaten the 49ers and then lost to the Seahawks and no one would be surprised really. Now, we must reverse that and just completely demolish the team were not supposed to beat. I want the bandwagon full again!

The chances of us beating Seattle are beyond my comprehension. I will watch all the game but have no expectation of winning. I just want to see who comes to play and how some of our young players do. I just hope we do not get embarrassed and that our coaches figure out how to stop those short passes over the middle or even try. I contine to think they keep McCown under center more than they should. His foot work is iffy at best and every team in the league will continue to blitz him. He is better suited at this point in the shotgun.
