The Los Angeles Rams will need to address cornerback at some point in the 2025 NFL Draft.
While the No. 26 pick is certainly an option for L.A., there will be other instances where a cornerback could make sense if a different player is available earlier. The Rams have eight picks this year, with four of them on Day 3 of the draft. That has been a sweet spot for Rams head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead and could be another area for them to pounce on a few undervalued prospects.
Pro Football Focus identified a possible option for the Rams on Day 3 of the draft: South Carolina's O’Donnell Fortune. While there have been several cornerbacks mocked to the Rams earlier, Fortune would be a quality late-round pick who could blossom into a contributor on Chris Shula's defense.
Fortune is a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder who finished with three interceptions in 2024 but has tallied seven over the past three seasons in 33 total games. He's also added 102 combined tackles and nine defended passes during that stretch.
Per PFF's draft guide, "Fortune has intriguing length but lacks the top-tier explosiveness for press-man responsibilities. He possesses good lateral movements and aggressive hands for a rotational and spot-starter projection as a Cover-3 cornerback."
Drafting Fortune late after missing out on other cornerbacks would be a high-risk, high-reward option if the Rams can coach him up as a rotational secondary player or eventual starter. Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams the outside starters right now, but that could change in the coming months.
